Illegal music downloads drop by 1/3 in the UK.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/sep/12/music-piracy-tracks-illegally-downloaded

The Guardian mentions someithng that I think is a natural consequence of the internet’s general move away from P2P to streaming and paid services. If you use Soundcloud, Spotify, Pandora, Grooveshark or any of the other players on large music websites like NPR, you’re never going to download music again, and if you do, it’ll probably be the odd album off of iTunes or when someone offers a free download in an email. I’m eager to see if the USA follows suit, because the more artists get paid for the music, the better. And to celebrate, Don’t Copy That Floppy is presented below without comment. 😀

Baby DJ School? Because a drum set wasn’t loud enough it seems.

http://gothamist.com/2013/09/09/baby_dj.php

Natalie Elizabeth Weiss has announced her Baby DJ School, starting Sept. 18th. It’s gotten picked up by Gothamist and the rest of the EDM Blogosphere simply because the idea of extreme younglings screwing around with an MPC controller or turntable needles both confuses and scares most of us. I…just…don’t know what to say. It’s $200 for an 8 week class, and I wonder what the final will be. Because if DJ Naptime drops some epic bottlestep, I’m going to start asking promoters how they get under-10 DJs into the club in Ibiza. If you don’t believe me, links to the press release and her blog are below:

Daft Punk to Appear on “The Colbert Report” Tuesday, August 6th LIVE!

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/daft-punk-to-appear-on-colbert-report-20130802

Daft Punk’s first live appearance anywhere on the planet in years will be on The Colbert Report. Confirmed by Pitchfork and a number of other sources, this is the first rumor of a DP appearance in 2013 that holds water. Oh, and Colbert tweeted it too.

Besides his whole appearance on The Jimmy Fallon show where he just walks on stage, dances to Get Lucky for a minute, and then leaves. YouTube video for the interested:

There you have it folks. Don’t miss this Tuesday’s Colbert Report if you’re into the Daftest of Punks. An amazing pick up for Colbchella 2013, and a huge re-introduction for Daft Punk to the US audience.

There’s a KidzBop version of “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore. I need a new word for atrocious.

In a word, Ew.

I’m not a big buzzfeed fan but this is probably the worst thing I’ve ever heard. They actually re-do the lyrics for each of these songs? I just figured they only picked PG-songs. This is so terrible I had to share it with all of you. I hope Macklemore got another floor on his house or something, because if he didn’t get 7 digits easily, this is a travesty.

A Map of Beerdom – New York, 11th Ward, 1885

“The Ward is reported by the police to be as orderly as any in the city.

The German is peculiar. Unlike his Irish and Yankee cousins, he does not make a great noise and hurrah over his cups, and wind up with a street brawl. He gathers unto himself a few kindred spirits, and together they wend their way to the Trink-Halle, where, in a little back room, with closed doors and drawn curtains, they guzzle beer together till none of them can see. In the morning they come out with queer-looking eyes, but there has been no disturbance in the place.

Said a clergyman to your reporter, “I came into the ward expecting to find nothing but filth and vice. But I could take you into hundreds of homes where you would find ease and comfort and even culture.”

346 Saloons, 19 Churches, 5 industrial schools & 1 hospital. The Lower East Side is more drunken & rowdy than it was in 1885? Now that’s a surprise 😀

“In the morning they come out with queer-looking eyes…”

The above map represents one ward of New York City – the Eleventh.

The saloons as put upon this map were ascertained by the reporter of the Christian Union by actual count.

The saloons are largely beer saloons: for the base of the population is German, and a large intermingling of German sounds, German signs, German wares, and German smells generally, prevail.

Pretty much all the available space, after enough room has been taken out for houses and grown people and huckster’s stands, is filled by stout, chubby, healthy-looking children – with here and there a punier waif – of all ages and sizes, mostly young and small, and of all degrees of cleanliness, from comparatively clean to superlatively dirty.

The Ward is reported by the police to be as orderly as any in the city.
