Hope From Pete Seeger
I really like the idea of lots of small leaders, giving the people what they need where they are. Instead of these vast hierarchies that encourage coldness & dehumanization of the community, real local connections, perhaps even local flair besides the Wal-Mart and the pop radio station. Homogenization of culture helps no one, least of all the artists. Rest in Peace Pete.
Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) Is So Wise.
Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam is a singer-songwriter who converted to Islam in the late 70’s and dedicated himself to philanthropic & educational efforts throughout the Muslim world. He’s being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, so get at him for Catch Bull at Four & Tea for the Tilleman. Amazing, truly American sound.
“If your heart is broken, make art with the pieces.” ~Shane Koyczan
This guy has done some breathtaking poetry (prominent one featured below) and as we roll into the week of cheesy V-Day malaise/capitalism, I wanted to remember that blue periods can be valuable for us all. Don’t stop creating and check him out here!
“After a victory, sharpen your knife.” ~Mafia Proverb
“…well, my only hope is that the guitar is mightier than the bomb.” ~Pete Seeger
I know I’m a little late to the game on this, didn’t want to take advantage of the death of a great man for an arbitrary traffic spike. Pete Seeger was a great man, and one you should take a minute to learn about if you have no idea who he was.
Tupac Has Probably Sparked The Brain That Will Change The World Already.
I mean, just saying. The number of inner city kids that were helped by his efforts to end gang violence, in addition to the millions of creatives that were influenced by his sound makes it seem likely. Just think, one day the president might be a Millennial who rocked backwards jeans because of Kriss Kross one month.
