After a month off, my companion & I hugged the door lady, a delightful lightworker & old friend of mine. The bass leaked through the space as we exchanged coats for drinks, taking it all in. I FEEL has come into its own, as my previous notes on them reflect, and it was nice to see the space/community & execution becoming mature so much that it’s commonplace and the people running the show are smiling, enjoying themselves and mingling with their attendees. Everyone knew what they were there for and they were getting it in spades. Sexy, sexy spades.
This was the month where the I FEEL community really cut loose. The theme ensured a dance floor filled with leather, lace, masks, tight pants, tighter corsets & an entire wardrobe of inappropriate clothing. This would’ve made for a delightful event in and of itself, but then the music. Oh my stars, the wonderful music. After consuming our drinks, making the rounds and being only slightly disappointed the X-frame & the St. Andrew’s Cross weren’t getting active use (hey, those parties are out there, don’t judge), we nestled into the dance floor with our people. The musicvibe swirled around as Holosound‘s set crescendo’d. Holosound had been building the energy ever so subtly since we arrived and the dance floor was so excited to see where the night headed. Especially the last half of his set seemed to be one huge song, and 55min in, the serotonin was hard to refuse, as we all lifted with him.
As Naveen G started to transition into command of the dance floor, my companion & I explored the space, re-acquainting ourselves with the sexy, cosmopolitan crowd. This community built up slowly over many, many months, so there’s a lot of ownership feelings with these cats. They took every inch of the dance floor and made it their own. The Go Go cages? Dangerously Full. The scaffolding on the left side? Used as stripper poles. The sign ached a deep vermilion, dotted with hot pink, while a dozen other lights & projection systems bathed the dance floor in some very flattering light. The crowd went deeper as Naveen G led . Check out what he did and vibe with me, even in anachronistic fashion.
REsy’s set happened at that right moment when I had just enough to drink so hitting the floor with my freshest moves seemed like a good idea. REsy did not disappoint. Anyone that was there can tell you, there was this moment about 20min into her set, the beat dropped after the perfect vocal sample “Profound Pleasure” and the entire room seemed to gyrate as one. This set was no joke, causing all sorts of climbing on things and Go Go dancing that I probably should’ve had to pay more money to witness. Check out the mix below, especially that early segment. The 90 minutes were some of the hottest I’ve seen at parties labeled for general consumption in a while. With a total absence of sloppy grinding, dudebros or aggressive feels being copped, that you’d expect at a retail event. And, if you’re wondering why, it’s because I FEEL.
As you can imagine, this primed the place for Pony’s set. I was there, front and center. I don’t usually hang out RIGHT THERE in front of the booth, as the crunch that close to the DJ reminds me of my daily Subway commute. However, I was not missing this, nor I was not disappointed. DJ Pony, the Savant of Sexy House, has been on my radar for years now & it’s been such a pleasure watching his sound evolve. There was an emotional complexity to his set that I’ve come to cherish, in addition to track choices that were second to none. If you managed to last until the end of his set, there was another moment, maybe about 10min from the end. Just this deep, shimmering, soulful beat that rewarded you for making it. Sexy beats with sexy people, late night. What else are you looking for in your Friday night really?
