Fan Dying Of Cancer At His “Last Rave” Reminds Us All Why We Do this.

http://edmmaniac.com/fan-with-terminal-cancer-spends-last-rave-at-escape-from-wonderland/

Something really special & powerful was communicated on Facebook/Instagram yesterday and I think it’s important to note it no matter your age or your scene. A club kid with terminal cancer who “knew he was going to die soon” decided to hit up Escape From Wonderland, Insomniac’s SoCal Fall Fest that went down last weekend as a last party (for all he knew). He walked up to a random other attendee and asked, and I’m going to quote again, because this is important: “if you promise to never give any of it away, will you take all of my kandi for me? (Instagram of it for the disbelievers: http://instagram.com/p/gA69n5jvmx) The kandi was exchanged after the second attendee emotionally accepted.

I think this gets to the core of why so many people willingly get assaulted by bass and ripped off at the bar week after week, year after year. When it comes down to it, those two people connected, in a very powerful way, getting at the type of interaction a lot of us seek. Kandi means quite a bit to people in the rave & club kid scene, with years upon years of meaning embedded into these pieces, symbolizing an oral history of their party career. Real talk, emotion and knowing you’re supported and cared for. People struggle to find that in every major institution, so it’s sought after more and more on the dance floor and in the warehouse. I can’t imagine the conversation they must have had, or how powerful that experience was for all involved. It’s easy to dismiss people who attend these events as drug users or drop outs from society, but that’s not only laughably wrong but it underscores a fundamental ignorance about the types of positive experiences that are possible. Community feels way better than drugs. I hope this kid gets the appropriate care to ease his passing if he can’t fight it off. (via EDM Maniac)

3 Duets Between Michael Jackson & Freddie Mercury To Be Released!

NME is reporting that 3 duets that were made back in 1983 by Freddie Mercury & Michael Jackson are still being worked on and should be released in about two months. Brian May has stated that they’re still being worked on and will be “something for folks to hear.” I gotta say I’m excited, because that would be some high-flying shit. Apparently also, Freddie Mercury thought Michael Jackson was a llama (in the article), so that’s pretty good too. (via NME)

Unsound Festival Bans Recording Devices/Phones/Cameras; Crowd’s Artistry Emerges!

Unsound Festival in Poland recently took the draconian step of banning phones and cameras from the event to prevent the wall of people with rectangles in front of their faces from happening. It seems some in the crowd took the challenge and did some amazing stuff. Check out the art and Unsound Festival in Poland! (art during/of RSS Boys & Pantha du Prince, via Stoney Roads)

BREAKING: Space Formerly Occupied By Limelight Is BACK! First Event October 30th!

Update: The page is up! Get tickets & RSVP! https://www.facebook.com/events/1427094404173440/

And without warning, a French restaurant rose from the grave (yea, it’s actually in the graveyard outside the church I think) of the Limelight, rose just in time for Halloween. Is Michael Alig out of jail yet? He and we all just may be able to get a table at the restaurant in the space now. But more importantly, on October 30th, YentalBeats (previously raved about here) and a bunch of other church-crashers are apparently dropping a 9PM “till late” event. It’s close enough to Halloween, and I guarantee the place will be thick even on a Wednesday. Here’s the new place: http://chateaunyc.com/ Gentlemen, start your engines. And make sure those engines sound like mid-to-late 90’s techno, trance & acid house for an added bonus. Will update this page once the event is up. We’re not sure how much of the space is still going to be used, and if we’ll even be able to get inside, but hey, what else is the internet for besides bringing you ridiculous news like this 😀 And Now that we’ve got the finalized lineup, make sure to check out the mixes from Yentalbeats, FDVM, Lee Kalt, Gato & Bass Control. Hard hitting. Get out there and start celebrating Devil’s Night.

Tiesto Makes Trance & It’s Wonderful. Yes, Really.

Tiesto, the man behind Club Life, In Search of Sunrise, the Parade of Athletes at the 2004 Summer Olympics and pushing the Adagio for Strings back into the ears of everyone who was even semi-conscious in the mid-oughts, has dropped a trance track. Any serious trance fan would understand how earth-shattering of an occurrence this is. The trance is 7min long, it’s gorgeous, there’s this wonderful, familiar production values that remind stunningly of In Search of Sunrise #1. Listen and remember that, for all the shit people talk, he said he’d drop a trance track in thanks for the support he got in the DJMAG awards. He was also given the Legend Award, which, while it’s not the #1 that Hardwell received, he thanked his fans just the same. Good of him, and please, everyone, yell about how good this is, so he stops playing electro and returns to his joyous trance roots.

So someone over at Gizmodo‘s subsection Paleofuture dropped a cool soundscape that features sounds of the world of Gotham, recorded between 1930 & 1933. Check it out just in case you wanted to know what these hallowed streets sounded like 80 years ago. http://vectorsdev.usc.edu/NYCsound/777b.html

SFX Entertainment dips, Forbes cracks wise.

The recently-formed SFX Entertainment went public and is down about 7% since its IPO price of $13. I think Forbes is missing a few points when it comes to why the stock is dipping. Firstly, with no events on the immediate horizon, there’s little buzz about the event space at the moment. With Festival season over, it’s hard to pitch the high-asset driven business, especially when most of the players in the realm of high finance live in proximity to Electric Zoo. With the deaths surrounding that event I think there’s a problem with micro perception at the personal level that only time will change. As these events continue un-fettered once we get better at keeping everyone safe, the space will naturally grow. Forbes provides some good background but ultimately is still on the outside looking in. Check it out here.

James Murphy picks up former Sepultura singer & drummer to form “The Metal White Stripes.”

So James Murphy of LCD soundsystem fame called up Sepultura and said “only bring the singer and the drummer, this project is totes top secret.” And Iggor Cavalera & his brother Max from Sepultura agreed. Iggor has sold around 20million records with his former band and neither the singer or drummer of Sepultura are to be fucked with. Which is why I am so freaking interested in this development. James Murphy put on hold producing the new Arcade Fire album to do this. You’d think he’d rest on his laurels, but no, the Metal White Stripes apparently. This should be fun. (via The Guardian)
