Pharrell’s Hat Had A Point. He’s Also Got Jokes On Everyone.

NYMag’s The Cut is the only outlet I’ve seen report this. It seems Pharrell’s hat was actually an elaborate fashion reference that throws all of the Smokey The Bear/Arbys/Curious George/Diglett references into sharp relief. Seems they’re not as clever as they thought they were.

Buffalo Girls (the video above), was first performed in 1844 by a Blackface minstrel singer, before it got picked up by the heads who re-did it. It’s actually just super retro, so, there’s your morning idle chatter salvo for you.

New Daft Punk Music Video Gives All The Feels With Julian Casablancas Center Stage.

I don’t know who Julian Casablancas is & I don’t really register him as a separate artist when I listen to Random Access Memories. I’m going to stop doing that immediately. The music video for  Instant Crush was released today and the only time the helmets appear, they’re on a shelf. The focus on the singer, who is striking, talented, and what appears to be twelve years old, is an excellent choice. Daft Punk has done quite well playing second fiddle to their accompaniment as it were, and it works perfectly. The love story between two mannequins is painful & sweet at the same time, and in 5 minutes, tells a vastly superior story to the sum totality of Twilight. Put it into your face, then go hug someone.

Daft Punk’s first live appearance anywhere on the planet in years will be on The Colbert Report. Confirmed by Pitchfork and a number of other sources, this is the first rumor of a DP appearance in 2013 that holds water. Oh, and Colbert tweeted it too.

Besides his whole appearance on The Jimmy Fallon show where he just walks on stage, dances to Get Lucky for a minute, and then leaves. YouTube video for the interested:

There you have it folks. Don’t miss this Tuesday’s Colbert Report if you’re into the Daftest of Punks. An amazing pick up for Colbchella 2013, and a huge re-introduction for Daft Punk to the US audience.
