It’s that time again folks. After melting my face last year, DiSORIENT is back at it and they’ve moved out of the new hotness that is Brooklyn, to return to the possibly new-new hotness that is Manhattan (also, Not the Warsaw. This is huge). I’m going to get right into the meat of this, because there’s a gigantic amount of talent to tell you about and I know I’m racing your ADD/Facebook notifications. The best way to describe GlamTech is to imagine a tuxedo made out of a disco ball, with light Pornj (Pink + Orange, for the uninitiated) running lights. This event is where the stops are pulled out, and you just might see an el wire dragon-frame corset, if that’s even a thing. But enough about what you’ll see, which has been described this year as the Dichroic Delusions. The ancient Kykeon of Eleusis comes to mind, the colors between spectrum & spaces in between heart beats, if you can be mindful of them.
The music is going to be deep, powerful & compelling. Anthony Attalla‘s smooth, meditative, rounded tech-house is the exact opposite of combative. If Anthony Attalla’s music was rowdy at all, I’d be making cheap Hun jokes, but just turn it on and see yourself gliding across the dance floor. Francois K is a Gotham nightlight institution in his own right, with Deep Space turning 11 this April. This pick-up could not have come easily, but approximately 5 seconds after he takes the decks, you’ll understand why. Connie, is one of my secret DJ crushes, that I can’t wait to hear take control of a Burner dance floor. One of the pillars of Resolute, expect some bomping tech house to match the boys. Her backup will be REsy, of DiSORIENT & the new Modus Operandi (not much info on them yet), who has been discussed here repeatedly. No for serious, put the mix into your face if you don’t know who this lady is. You’ll thank me when you see her on a festival lineup.
Reda Briki‘s reputation within the Burner Crowd is well known, and with his new residency at Sankey’s, NYC muggles are starting to take notice of his raw talent and his warm, global beats. Another native is Carol Ferraz, one of the hardest working DJs in NYC, adding a flair and passionate suchness to the usually cold & unfeeling world of deep house & techno (yes, suchness is a word, go read Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance). I have so much love for Mysti, so I could not be happier she’s rocking the main event here for DiSORIENT. She’s come so far and I can’t wait to see her blow people’s minds once again, and I can’t honestly say I know what she’s going to sound like, but I hope I won’t miss it. Luis Campos spun at the very first event I reviewed and posted about here on blog (read it here if you’re cool with text & a lack of sophistication), and he’s been maintaining the same level of quality since. The Brazilian founder of Psycheground has a laundry list of accomplishments I could jam up the preview with, but I’ll just add his Deep Mix from two months ago and let his fingers do the talking (if you’re into psy-breaks, check this out by his old group, for something entirely different but still excellent).
There are a few more DJs but you’ll have to hit up the event page to find them. Also, I’m mad at Elixir because he hasn’t updated his Soundcloud page after his bomb ass set last year at Glamtech, so he doesn’t get a link 😉 Art by 3 groups including one who does the picture above. I mean, I’m kind of sold already and I haven’t even seen it. Be warned, this event isn’t cheap and this isn’t a club party. Boundary respect and enthusiastic consent is mandatory, in addition to some participation in making it awesome. I’m kind of amazed it hasn’t sold out yet this late in the month. Therefore, if this sounds like something you’re into and you’re down with really living it up somewhere mysterious in the Financial District, get thee to the ticket page with haste. (After party in the works, check back here for updated info.)
