Attend: NYC Gratitude & Evolver NYC Present AXIS MUNDI

(So, the whole “party of the month” thing started feeling a bit restrictive and obstinate, so I’ve decided to start a new segment called “Attend.” This will be a series of previews for events that you should…be at. Starting with one of the finest nights Gotham has to offer.)

It’s that time again! Gratitude is partnering with Evolver to lead an army of burners, builders, movers, shakers, candlestick makers, producers, riggers, bands, builders, VJs, healers & dancers to life for 18hours of classes, dancing, participation & performance. You read that right. Eighteen freaking hours. That’s 3x the party of any club or bar out there. Get with it. All afternoon, there will be classes on yoga, dance, art, environmental action and a bunch of other groovy stuff, hosted by Evolver. And then at 9 PM, there’s this guy and his friends.

So, take that, and add an epic story, with a cast of characters and a whole lot of stuff on fire. One of the things that really separates clubs/EDM from Burner culture is fire. You see explosions at huge festivals, and poi is showing up more and more, BUT no one burns like Burners. This show at 9 PM looks to be pretty bonkers and I’d imagine it’s a perfect reason to get there an hour earlier than you’d planned. Then after that insanity, there’s 3 different areas of sound, each with a retinue of Sonic Ronin that will blow minds.

Mix Of The Weekend: When Did Collin McLoughlin Get Deep?

My people at EDMTunes have made a serious pick up when it comes to exclusive mixes. I don’t know who convinced Collin McLoughlin to go deep for his new mix, but the Gods sing their praises. This new direction from the dubstep remix maestro extraordinaire is astonishing. To not only switch gears, but to make it seem effortless is truly amazing. The mix convinces me we need to get the kid at a Verboten or Deep Space events ASAP. Someone call Reda Briki and get this kid at Sankeys please. Because if they don’t…I just might.

Party of the Month: GlamTech (2nd Year In A Row!)

It’s that time again folks. After melting my face last year, DiSORIENT is back at it and they’ve moved out of the new hotness that is Brooklyn, to return to the possibly new-new hotness that is Manhattan (also, Not the Warsaw. This is huge). I’m going to get right into the meat of this, because there’s a gigantic amount of talent to tell you about and I know I’m racing your ADD/Facebook notifications. The best way to describe GlamTech is to imagine a tuxedo made out of a disco ball, with light Pornj (Pink + Orange, for the uninitiated) running lights. This event is where the stops are pulled out, and you just might see an el wire dragon-frame corset, if that’s even a thing. But enough about what you’ll see, which has been described this year as the Dichroic Delusions. The ancient Kykeon of Eleusis comes to mind, the colors between spectrum & spaces in between heart beats, if you can be mindful of them.

Hometown Fire: REsy

For this edition of Hometown Fire, I’m delighted to feature one of the hardest working ladies in the NYC underground & Burner community. While I’ve mentioned her before, she’s fought her way through the Gotham underground and earned a slot at Sankeys NYC, the UK super-club transplant that opened this fall (discussed here by me previously). This is a HUGE win for fans of the silky smooth & soulful signature sound that seeps from the speakers whenever she slips onto the decks. There’s a deep, almost tribal quality to some of the more intense moments of her mixes, something that you couldn’t ignore if you caught her set at GlamTech. There’s a bunch more on her Soundcloud before.

To reiterate, one of the shooting stars of the underground is spinning at one of the most underrated clubs in the city. She’s setting up for Reda Briki, a dance institution in his own right, but this post is not for him. It’s for Resy. Because she drops it like it is much warmer than it is outside my apartment right now. Get tickets for it here.
