Nadezhda Tolokonnikova Of Pussy Riot Is On A Hunger Strike.

One of the members of the now-jailed actual punk band Pussy Riot has started on a hunger strike in protest of how she’s being treated while incarcerated. In a long letter published in The Guardian, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova details the conditions she faces, including extremely poor treatment, 17 hour work days, and exploitation of fear to ensure that the conditions are encouraged by the other prisoners. It’s a heart-wrenching letter that needs to be read and shared the world over. The incarceration of Pussy Riot is a reminder of the old ways, where the sad but powerful torture the free and young to prevent them from expressing themselves. So I’ll say it, like many have before me (via FACT)…

Damascus Still Gets Down: A Dozen clubs remain open in the Syrian capital.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2424434/Dancing-Damascus-The-clubbers-determined-enjoy-night-tiles-Syrias-civil-war-rages-them.html#ixzz2fH1zJWWW

While Assad terrorizes the Syrian people, according to the Daily Mail, there are about a dozen clubs still operating in Damascus. The clubgoers hit up one such establishment in the neighborhood of Shaalan, where they dance, drink and listen to music that’s generally pretty kind to al-Assad and his military. Throwing parties must get pretty tough, especially in a capital under attack, so I can imagine it’s necessary to maintain a pretty non-rebellious stance. Apparently there are clubs where there is still champagne, and with one mentioned closing at 2 AM, that’s officially better than last call in a lot of American cities.

I’ll let the rest of the article do the talking, but it’s good to know people are still dancing in the ancient city. I hope they find peaceful streets to dance in again soon.

Empty German clubs snapped by university students in Hamburg!

http://stoneyroads.com/german-clubs-after-everyone-leaves-photos/

There’s a lot of really great photography of clubs when they’re packed, but we forget that these spaces are usually just gigantic empty boxes. Two university students out of Hamburg, Giesermann Andre & Daniel Schulz took some amazing pictures of empty clubs around Germany. Hey German readers, what clubs were snapped, and which are your favorite?

Avicii releases trailer for “Gravity,” a new video game for iPhone/iPad

Avicii, the Swedish Sensation, has taken one of the roads less traveled when it comes to promotion, and I think it’s going to pay off big time. His new game looks simple, fun and it has a great soundtrack (of course). Apparently there’s an exclusive mix you can only get if you play the game. While this may end up annoying some Android users (as the game is only currently coming for iPhone/iPad), stoking demand for it if it goes well on the Apple side would do even more to promote him.

I like the idea, and I can’t wait for it to get big enough that I can run it in Chrome on my home PC (with big speakers) or my Android phone. It’ll be there soon enough. Kudos to him, I can’t wait to see other top level talent doing so. The ASOT video game would be so pretty…

London legend Rough Trade to drop a Vinyl Warehouse + Venue in Williamsburg!

November 25, the legend of Rough Trade on the other side of the pond are finally arriving in Gotham. Not only is there going to be a big ass vinyl flagship store, but a new venue sharing a 15,000sq. ft. (alleged) “warehouse” space. Honestly, this is exciting. A new venue and a new flagship vinyl record store in Williamsburg? It’ll almost be worth going back to that neighborhood on Friday nights. Bring your needles. (via The Vinyl Factory)

Universal to re-issue ON VINYL the best of Public Enemy, N.W.A., Ice Cube, Kanye, Lil’ Wayne & more

Just in time for the holiday season, Universal has started releasing details and remastered some of the best hip hop albums of the past. With Straight Outta Compton by N.W.A. already out, I can’t be more happy that “It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back.” is being released Nov. 12, among a dozen other albums by lumnaries mentioned in the title getting hooked up and dropped. Best of all, now all you vinyl lunatics can grab an actual copy so you don’t have to keep sharing the one copy one of you bought back in 93. If vinyl isn’t a stocking stuffer, what is? Party of the Month! Nautical by Nature – Vitamin B and Gemini & Scorpio

Tickets Here: http://vitaminboat.eventbrite.com/

(Update: Stanton Warriors visa had issues, so they won’t be there, but Joro Boro & DJ Shakey will be there! Should be a full house and it’ll still be an amazing time! Keep it going and get over there!)

Back after the summer break, the party scene in NYC is heating back up. As the kids are back at NYU, the burners are home from the playa & the social-climbers have returned from the Hamptons, let’s get back to where we once belonged. In case you’re not done partying on a boat for the season, my friends at Vitamin B and Gemini & Scorpio bring forth one last naval adventure before it gets too cold to be waiting in line on the pier for the bouncer to stop fucking around with wristbands while your date is shivering their ass off. Gemini & Scorpio are lending a hand as well, so this should be a great mix of people buccaneering around Manhattan for a few hours. Captained by the nautical marvel himself, Guncle, I think we’re in for a wonderful time featuring a fantastic group of seamen performers.

Vitamin B had an unfortunate incident at the now departed House of Yes after some overzealous NYPD decided to pad their quotas for the month and are throwing a joint fundraiser with G&S to defray legal costs and re-ornament Guncle . The resident DJ Jedi Masters of Vitamin B will be bomping some of the choicest cuts, samples, jams, tunes and whatever else they found in their gargantuan aural archives. Tektite, Tim the Enchanter & Barney Iller (who has been discussed on this blog previously here, here and here), will be joined by a very good friend, $mall Change.

RECESS NEW YORK – Small Change

This guy has the best sense of funk, disco, dub, soul and smooth house I’ve ever heard, and he’s adding some breaks-y fun into the mix to ensure the Stanton Warriors are buttressed with hours of quality sonic therapy on either side of their live set. You heard me right. Stanton Freaking Warriors.

The Stanton Warriors are one of those groups you’d probably recognize instantly, if you realized how often their remixes/tracks are pushed into some of your favorite sets. These guys have a list of remixes longer than the baggy JNCO pants I wore back in high school, and they’ve maintained an impressive track record of live competence with quality releases. They’re a fantastic pick up for Vitamin B, who have been steadily pulling in impressive talent month after month this year. And, to cap it off, it’s not only on a boat, but it’ll be ending on the early side, so you can scamper off to another party afterwards and brag about how awesome your evening’s been already. See you there!
