Tech Noir Glimmers & Glows in the Dark.

“Papers Please!”

I looked up to see Guncle, the adorable Cerberus of the Gotham night smiling through his almost decadent scarf covering his nose & mouth. His eyes belied a huge grin as I passed my ticket up to the booth for his review and after an embrace I changed into my costume and checked my bag. The theme for the evening was a stunning mix of dystopia, cyberpunk, post-apocalypse & a general techy layered on top of the already beautiful Red Lotus Room.

EP of the Week: “Gone, But Not Forgotten” by IniPhiles

(Another one of my reviews for Old Timey Hedgehog, which can be found in this brand spanking new iMag that you can get right here: http://www.amazon.com/Hedgy-Times-Issue-Magazine-ebook/dp/B00CLEMFTC/ Get at it, as it costs less than your cup of coffee. Or your Red Bull if you live in Manhattani interestingly.)

I’ve got a recently released chiptune phoenix for you this month. The eight track EP that was done to avenge the tragic fall of TWD Industries’ data cart has arrived. And you know, it’s pretty cool. While some chip-related producers are staying well within the borders of an increasingly crowded body of work, TWD Industries is consistently bored enough with it to go in some funky & inventive kinda ways. King Photon lends some support because obviously a 2 man party gets much farther into the dungeon than a solo adventurer.

22 Tracks You Missed in April 2013

https://soundcloud.com/terrygotham/sets/april-2013

As April showers turn to May flowers and the random weird people turning their A/Cs on way too early in the year, I’ve got 22 tracks that got put into my awareness over the last 30 days. A bunch of fun stuff as usual, with some ethereal but deep & meditative downtempo/chill stuff from LuQuS, Soular Order, Critical, Headphone Activist & Henry Saiz. ak9 drops a delightful track to round out the more calm side of things with “When You Come Home” which has become a fast favorite.

AraabMuzik Shot After Attempted Robbery

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/araabmuzik-recovering-after-he-was-shot-during-attempted-robbery-20130503

One of the true MPC jedis was shot while fending off an attempted robbery on May 2nd. He’s recovering in the hospital and will still be able to make Electric Daisy Carnival but his scheduled show in Little Neck, NY may not go down. Here’s one of my favorite early proofs that this kid was not to be trifled with from 2010.

EP of the Week: Sierra Leone Remixes

Mt. Eden is one of my absolute favorite artists and almost 2 years after downloading & playing the hell out of their original tracks, they’re finally releasing some of their sick nasty goodness for purchase. Sierra Leone is a gorgeous track that was one of the first that proved that dubsteppy beats could be chilled and lovely in my mind. Saw these cats live at Webster Hall and they did not disappoint in the least. The remixes, from the likes of Araabmuzik and Tommie Sunshine do not disappoint. TaKu adds some fun garage’y beats to round out the EP. Tight, to the point and a great little reminder that Mt. Eden kills it. Can’t wait for their next NYC show.

Earworm of the Month: Daymanstep by Joman

So, I have to admit, I’ve not seen enough It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and this track has decided it for me. I’ll be putting this stuff into my face. If for no other reason that I can find more shit like this. Daymanstep is a brutal & hilarious dubstep remix of a clip from the “Dayman” episode of Always Sunny. The wobble is on point, the sample usage is perfect and the auto-tune for the vocal work could not be better. I cannot emphasize enough how pleased I was when I was introduced to this piece after someone posted this clip from the show:

One of my favorite people Ť¥gēŗ£ÏŁŸ, dropped this track on me, and I cannot thank her enough. It’s been on repeat, sometimes for way too long than I’m willing to disclose publicly. Get at the producer who made it, DJ Joman, because there’s some quality there and the non-Always Sunny-related tracks are quite entertaining as well. For the lazy among you, his ish is listed below. I know I’m like a thousand years late to the daymanstep party, but it’s new to me, probably new to you and fantastic.
