The mind reels. Eskmo with this needs a thousand upvotes or whatever their preferred internet point currency is. Is BitCoin safe again yet? Because both this remix & the one below are fantastic examples of what Tom Waits can be combined with. Cookie Monster really could tour in the place of Mr. Waits, the first video has convinced me. The Aphex Twin mashup is fantastic, dropping Computer Control into some of Tom Waits more unnerving vocal work. Eskmo’s got an album coming out, so put that into your face as well, but before you do, make sure this gets played for your more jumpy friends. And if you know someone who actually knows Mr. Waits, make sure he knows about this stuff too.
Can we get this dude in something? Are there any more breakdance movies coming out? Can there be an entire one of liquid, popping/locking, b-boying and everything else associated with EDM? I might actually go see that thing, as opposed to the miasma of hip hop vs. ballet & tap vs. contemporary gang war stuff. (via Metafilter)
While both of these songs are fantastic and deserve your attention, I wanted to bring your attention to the supporting cast in these videos. There is this crew in Ghana that apparently is better at bikes than pretty much every one of those trick videos you’ve ever seen. The two songs are proof that there is some amazing music coming out of the developing world, so put them into your face and be wowed by the talent. (via Metafilter)
I mean really, what else is there to say? Le Poisson Rouge was served a delightful surprise last week, when the Talking Heads alum performed in support of “Artists’ Pay For Radio Play” last Tuesday night. Not only did he sit in with the band, they busted out the Biz Markie. Which, is always welcome on the mean streets of Gotham. (via Metafilter)
Someone over at Metafilter shouted out this new YouTube Channel and its various hep renditions of classic rock & roll, alt rock & whatever else they feel like. A serious chiptune movement exists, that I’ve discussed often on the blerg. I believe tunes like this can remind others that chip is a legit genre and there’s a lot of work that needs to be done in that space to make EDM stronger as a whole. Can’t wait to see who does it and pushes the genre into the big room for the first time. (via Metafilter)
