Steve James Makes Me Feel Bad About My Choice In High School Extracurricular Activities.

So, it’s officially not a fluke. I think I’m just going to start calling Keeno, Elephante, Just A Gent & Steve James Young Justice. There’s a competence that’s only going to get better with age here, and when I was 17, I thought I was a bad ass because I knew what Napster was. His most recent remix is a main room euphoric anthem remix of Wolf Gang’s “Lay Your Love Down.” Which, frankly, is a great direction. The decision to head into indie records is HUGE, for anyone out there reading this, DO THAT. Stop trying to remix Lorde or Radiohead, or Ellie Goulding, as someone named diplo or Calvin Harris has done it first and better. The branching into an indie track not only gives him a unique opportunity to drop banger shit on something that hasn’t had banger shit on it already. That technical description is a glib attempt to remind you that, really, after Kaskade’s remix of Young & Beautiful, a lot of people forgot what the original sounded like. Same with Armand Van Helden when he created the global remix by reworking Professional Widow by Tori Amos. To that end, it’s executed flawlessly. It goes to the right progressive places and doesn’t really dawdle about it. Check your man out on Soundcloud & Twitter and bomp as needed.

Midnight Music: Faul & Wad Ad vs. Pnau – Changes (Lash Remix) [Potent Indietronica]

Lash has been on a tear as of late, with a Cazzette remix and some work elsewhere on soundcloud. They’ve gotten my attention because of just how irrepressible they can be. This Changes remix from (group name of the month incoming) Faul & Wad Ad vs. Pnau (bless you) is pretty catchy & almost too sweet for most. This is a festival tune that I hope the Aussies get a hold of, with the Southern Hemisphere party season just starting to warm up. This may be a little too positive for the Halloween parties we’ve got incoming, but if you do hear it out, make sure to shake your booty. The track has gotten over 60,000 plays since it was dropped two weeks ago, so get in on the ground floor on this one.

Midnight Music: OneRepublic – I Lived (Arty Remix) [Progressive Anthem]

You’ve made it to the end of Monday, it’s all downhill from here. This triumphant remix of OneRepublic will put a swing in your step, or a swagger, whichever you prefer. The soaring vocal work gets some potent backing beats from the Russian sensation Arty. The 4:26 of progressive goodness could find its way into an Avicii or Swedish Fish Mafia set easily! The lack of big room feels are welcome in this post-Brolectro era, and I can’t wait to hear Arty & Mat Zo come back together to do some amazing touring work that will just pour buckets of Serotonin onto their fans. We’ve been waiting for years, and they’ve been steadily kicking more and more ass in their respective careers. Can’t wait for that reunion tour!

Midnight Music: Galantis – Smile (Hyperbits & Jenaux Remix) [Summer House]

If you’ve been keeping track, you’ve probably realized I love the Summer House sound. This tropical, rambling, slowed down groove is definitely a great creation to fight back against the brolectro & big room that has been dominant the last couple of years. Galantis & others are doing great work in the more chilled house space, and now, Hyperbits & Jenaux strike with an even Summery-er (I know, not a word. Yet) House remix. The huge Progressive hook in the track gives it this shining, euphoric feel that I can’t wait to see get played in live sets. The energy is up and it never gets too cheesy. Put it into your face when you need a pick me up, it’s good for what ails you. (via White Raver Rafting)

Midnight Music: Cazzette ft. The High – Sleepless (Steve James Remix) [Progressive House]

Ah, August, the kids are going back to school. And in this case, also making awesome progressive remixes of a hot Cazzette track. Not exactly the standard story you expect when someone tells you about their Summer vacation. The shimmering chopped up beat is playful and shows that Steve James isn’t slacking. There’s a chic vibe to the tune but it still pushes into the anthemic territory and rides around up there. The track is easy to like and I’d be surprised if I didn’t hear this in the sets chasing the summer sunset. The original Cazzette mix is potent and this gives it even more festival recognition and viability. I’m hoping this results in greater exposure for both Steve James and Cazzette. There’s a lot to like about this progression in sound and I for one am delighted it’s happening. Big Room is dead, long live Progressive.

Midnight Music: Raffael De Luca ft. Bill Burr – That DJ Music

Ok, this is funny. Bill Burr had some words about DJs (on Conan I believe) and scored some points busting on EDM culture in front of a live studio audience. Burr has a way with words, and I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, and these jokes were right up my alley. I was delighted to find out a Gotham City DJ Raffael De Luca pushed out a hilarious remix of this vocal work. Can’t believe it took me two weeks to get up on this! (via EDMTunes)

Midnight Music: Tiesto’s Uplifting Remix of Buffalo Bill By Moxie Raia

If you look up sugary anthem trance in the dictionary, right there under Robert Miles & Darude, you’d see some of Tiesto’s most successful work. The Club Life podcast has showcased his slow shift into the middle space between trance, house & electro, but this anthem gets into your head and doesn’t leave. It’s big room pixie stick progressive at its best. So if you’re fretting work tomorrow, or you had to work today, crank it and let this take you away for a few more minutes.
