Midnight Music: Galimatias & Sorrow – Subside

Galimatias is definitely one of my artists to not miss this year, and this track reminds us all as to why. The smooth, deep house combined with just a touch of UK garage sounding beats to mellow out your evening. Galimatias. Remember the name when they open for Disclosure. You heard it here first.

Midnight Music: Ruben Haze & Dirty South Joe ft. Example – One Way Ticket

I’m super pleased this collaboration happened. Example has been on my radar for a few years now, carving out a respectable name for himself in the UK & worldwide. I give mad props to any male vocalist that can hang in the dance game, and he does quite well. Dirty South has done some amazing work & always kills it when he gets behind the decks at PACHA NYC. I’ve not heard of Ruben Haze before, but I won’t forget the name after this tune. There’s a serious Red Hot Chili Peppers vibe on the tune, but it inflects into this potent, but never oppressive indie-infused sound. I know that sounds kind of silly considering the fact that I’ve now used “indie” and “Pacha” in the same paragraph, but check it out and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I’m definitely looking forward to this EP now, as indietronica continues to be my jam. Kudos to This Song Is Sick for the tip.

Midnight Music: Have A Nice Day by World Order

I am going to keep posting these guys until they’re as big as Victorian School Girl costumes are in Japan. Genki Sudo continues to blow minds and generate camera phone snaps across Japan. This time, there’s a lot more crowd interaction in the movement & scenes with guest stars Akihabara, or AKB48, while they perform and explore the region of the same name. So yes, they’re hanging out with Akihabara in Akihabara, because Japan. The song is upbeat, catchy & starry-eyed like only Genki Sudo can be. Can this please be a live act somewhere on this side of the planet please? kthxbai

Midnight Music: An Hour of Etherwood, Majestic Drum & Bass

http://www.medschoolmusic.com/xtra-talent-with-etherwood-19-03-2014/

One of my favorite discoveries last year was Etherwood. A supremely talented D&B producer & DJ from the UK, he was swiftly picked up by Med School, the Hospitality support label. This is a huge pickup for them, and I’m so glad to see he’s getting billing & performance time at shows I can’t go to in the UK. The mix is amazing, featuring his music in addition to ill picks from d:Bridge, London Elektricity and a bunch of other Hospital. There is also a link to 2 other hour long mixes as he’s on the decks for BBC One Weekly this month! Don’t sleep on this if you’re a D&B fan, you’ll thank me. Can’t wait to see where this guy goes in 2014, especially after this quartet of hotness.

Midnight Music: Kid Beyond – I Shall Be Free

This is a big throwback for Thursday, coming to you all the way from 2006. Kid Beyond‘s soulful anthem, I Shall Be Free. The amazing message is as true now as it was when I first heard it after this pixie of a girl sent it to me after attending one of my parties. The combination of funky vocals, powerful chords and a whole lot of groovy vibes blend in a way that was more modern than I expected, especially for a message this hopeful.

Midnight Music: Warrior’s Dance by The Prodigy

Tonight, get your urban tribal jam pants on (I kind of want to know what those look like now). I’m bringing you everyone’s favorite electronic dance music equivalent of a soccer riot, The Prodigy. Warrior’s Dance is a song I’ve actually seen performed live, and trust me, it’s a weirdly exhilarating experience to  mosh at Ultra Music Festival. Put the music into your face and then smash your enemies/to-do lists/workouts.

Midnight Music: Jhene Aiko’s “My Afternoon Dream”

Jhene has been soothing the savage beast within millions all over the world for a while now. This melodic, chilled out vocal track will bring you back down from whatever infuriating bullshit Monday tossed at you. She pushed this out yesterday afternoon, and it could not be more necessary tonight. We’re 20% of the way to another brief respite. Rest well weary travelers. She hung out with Childish Gambino a few month ago and that was amazing as well. See below if you don’t believe me.

Midnight Music: Drake ft. Jay-Z – Poundcake (ENFERNO Live Remix)

I am done hearing people whine about how electronic music isn’t performed live, isn’t an art and/or isn’t music. Watch DJ ENFERNO play 4 instruments and construct a song right in front of your eyes. The combination of dubstep, piano synth melody, MPC-sickness & some fantastic old school vinyl will blow your mind and someone needs to get this guy to hang out with Beardyman.
