“I just took six hits of Molly.” Those were 20-year-old Olivia Rotondo’s last words to an EMS worker at this year’s Electric Zoo Music Festival. Jeffrey Russ, 24, also died from an MDMA overdose at that same event. Four other people were hospitalized.

Fortunately, the media used the tragedy at Electric Zoo to have a thoughtful, informed discussion about MDMA use in the EDM community. Just kidding. The media chose the “Blind Hysteria” option. For example, The New York Daily News’ headline the next day was simply “DEATH FEST”.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Congress was attempting to outright ban all raves and dance music events on the basis that club owners and promoters knowingly allowed illegal drug activity on their premises. And when a teenager died at Electric Daisy Carnival in 2010, California politicians immediately proposed the “Anti Raves Act” of 2011 to ban raves…

Flux Pavilion Friday! His New Track Is Wonderful

For your Friday review, Flux Pavilion dropped a track yesterday that definitely needed some more attention. Put it into your faceholes as quickly as possible. The combination of the classic Flux Pavilion sound with some gorgeous vocals from Rosie Oddie shows that the upcoming Freeway EP (that you can pre-order here: bgbe.at/1b6XfPT) will continue the “Giant made of clouds” feel that Flux Pavilion has become famous the world over for. The triumphant feeling FP is known for is heavily apparent here, and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the EP. Get at the track right below.

Black Flag’s First Album In 20 Years “What If” Can Be Streamed On Spotify Right Now!

Just in case you needed some anger in your Thursday, Black Flag has another album out. The first one in two decades. I’ve not gotten it all into my face yet, but I didn’t really feel like starting a soccer riot today, so it might not be for me at the moment? Hit it up on Spotify if you’re interested, and someone call Henry Rollins, I want to hear him review the album. (via FACT)

Two Dance Music Related CrowdFunding Projects That Deserve Your Attention, One Involving A Bionic DJ.

I wanted to toss these out there. I’m not usually one to directly hawk shit, but it seems both of these things are for a good cause. The first, is an update to the story I posted last week here. There’s a campaign out to raise money to help pay for the treatment he needs for his terminal cancer and to make his life a bit less shit in his final months. It’s linked below, and feel free to give up some spare change if you’ve got any and liked the kid’s story.

The second one is a bit more outlandish but kind of amazing. A DJ was the victim of a traumatic car accident and lost his primary arm. They’re raising money to buy an advanced prosthetic for him so he can…become the world’s first DJ with an artificial hand? I’m really intrigued, and frankly, getting a prosthetic for someone without an arm is always a good thing. The guy they’re raising money for doesn’t seem to be promoting it, and his friends are attempting to do something nice for him. Figured I’d help them out.

Hoop Perfection: Form, Mathematics & Beats

Etereas / Animation Shortfilm from Flaminguettes on Vimeo

All of you amazing people need to watch this stupendous hooping video. I cannot imagine how many hours in post-production this took, especially when it came to the sheer volume of vector artwork that was added to the stunning hoop work. It’s the afternoon, you can take a break and watch it, I promise. You earned it for getting through Monday and this morning. (via @MASSEDMC)

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot Has Gone “Missing” (Updated)

The BBC reports that jailed, hunger striking member of the punk band Pussy Riot, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has gone missing. Her husband states he’s not gotten any information on his wife’s whereabouts since she was moved 10 days ago. He spoke to Buzzfeed as well, and their article was published yesterday.

Jaydos Provides Some Hilarious Tips On The Melbourne Cup Festival (Severely NSFW)

It seems that the Australian festival scene is representing some very good hooliganism with Jaydos and his boys. There’s a huge amount of satire and reminds of what not to do by him doing the ever living fuck out of it. It was remarked to me that it’s kind of amazing how much work went into this. The script is complete and obscene while being entertaining as all hell. It involves a llama, I’m not kidding. It reminds very vaguely of Hunter S. Thompson’s discussion of The Kentucky Derby (full text for anyone who hasn’t enjoyed this thoroughly). This kid’s pretty smart and I’ll be checking out the rest of his work. Ringo Starr Reconstructs Picture Of High School Friends 50 Years Later

In one of the more bizarre uses of fame & stardom, Ringo Starr apparently recreated the shot of 5 friends skipping school to see The Beatles in 1964 while he toured in the USA. Ringo apparently got the group on the Today Show to reconstruct the photograph and there’s a whole lot of backstory there. Apparently they drove up to the limo and he grabbed the shot. Hit the Daily Mail link for more info: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2479851/Photograph-taken-Ringo-Starr-high-school-friends-peering-Chevrolet-reconstructed-50-years-group-reunited.html Good on you dude. Way to live up to your Simpsons portrayal.
