Midnight Music: Lorde – Tennis Court (Flume Remix) [Clouds Made Of Bounce]

Well, in light of the Major Lazer remix that came to light yesterday, I just wanted to be THAT guy, and remind everyone about the other remix of Tennis Court. Flume just sold out 3 nights in NYC, and if you don’t have a clear idea why, just put this tune into your ear holes. Flume has production that is unrivaled, with massive remixes hitting and his name climbing the festival bill very quickly. And if this tune doesn’t convince you, check out his remix of Gold by Chet Faker. I swear, the Aussies are combining their powers Power Ranger style. This is some potent, soulful & massive stuff.

Midnight Music: Raffael De Luca ft. Bill Burr – That DJ Music

Ok, this is funny. Bill Burr had some words about DJs (on Conan I believe) and scored some points busting on EDM culture in front of a live studio audience. Burr has a way with words, and I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, and these jokes were right up my alley. I was delighted to find out a Gotham City DJ Raffael De Luca pushed out a hilarious remix of this vocal work. Can’t believe it took me two weeks to get up on this! (via EDMTunes)

Bonus Mix For The Summer Weekend: Nutritious At Cielo!

Coming at you to wind down the weekend, Nutritious brings in some of the deeper, rounder, groovier elements of the dance music spectrum for this delightful mix at his return to Cielo. The last time we saw our hero there, he delighted & blissed out the crowd. I assume this time was more of the same. From the sound of it, I’m not sure how it could be anything but. Wind down with this fun mix and make sure to show Nutritious & SpinSpinNYC some love.

Midnight Music: Dr Meaker ft. Sian Evans – Right Back [Drum & Bass]

Tonight, I’m proud to announce Circus Records is putting out a nice little Drum & Bass tune by Dr Meaker. This has an indulgent old school feel with some potent supporting chords. The Circus sound definitely comes out, with the track seeming at home in the faster sections of a Flux Pav set. Sian Evans adds some swaying vocals that are in sync with the pacing. It’s hard to find faults with the release. It’s proper Drum & Bass, not liquid, not psy, not anything crazy. Just your bread and butter D&B that makes me think of hoodies and camo. Not heavy enough to add the gas masks though. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves now 😀

Midnight Music: Monstercat 17 – Ascension [Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Electro, Ambient Sickness]

I have a special place in my heart for Monstercat. I’ve been watching this label grow from the ragtag crew of dedicated producers & DJs for so long now. The label, a full-fledged juggernaut in the dubstep, electro, trap and house spaces, cannot be ignored any longer. The warriors in their stable, Au5, Haywyre, Astronaut, Pegboard Nerds, Fractal, Feint, Mr.FijiWiji (THE FIJ!) and many others. Some are old hats, and others are upstarts, chomping at the bit to disrupt both the kind of music we listen to, and how we listen to it. Their digital distribution has been on point since day one, and their compilations (the newest one listed below) are an obnoxious amount of quality. The tracks are cheap, with the compilations being even cheaper. If you’re into this kinda sound, you won’t find it better than at Monstercat. I’ll start shouting out individual artists when I have time, but for now, just dive in. You’ll find something you like, and if you can’t, just play track 30 and let the illness that is Mr FijiWiji rock your world.

Midnight Music: Burial – Feral Witchchild [Burial Dubplate]

I am super pleased to bring you this ridiculously obscure gem from Burial. I have no idea when it was released or if it’s an official edit or not. It could just be something a fan recorded off of a dj set or a podcast, or an original dubplate, as is reported where I found it. This is vintage Burial, that mix of UK garage, being dumped by your ex , dubstep and soft hip hop beats.

Midnight Music: Pendulum – The Island (OLWIK Bootleg) [Progressive Jam]

The producers are getting younger and younger. For this week’s motivational midnight music, get a load of this 17 year old out of Sweden. The reworking of the amazing Pendulum track “The Island” is a masterful, driving progressive house anthem that I’m kicking myself for not discovering sooner. The euphoria is strong with this kid and I’m hoping that nothing gets in his way. Because seriously, I’ve been waiting for the pendulum (you see what I did there?) to swing away from the big room electro crapola into some potent melodic. And this guy’s got the chops to lead the charge.

Mix of The Weekend: Kaskade’s EDC Las Vegas Live Set [American As Apple Pie!]

In case you weren’t one of the millions of unlucky people like myself who didn’t make it out to the Electric Sky for EDCLV, Kaskade once again comes to the rescue to round out your weekend. He dropped his hour long set at the Kinetic Cathedral, the largest stage ever constructed in the USA. Because Rotella said so. Good on you Kaskade for continuing to make this all happen and putting it out to the people. Can’t wait to see this music portal. (via EDMTunes, they’ve got the tracklist too, in case you’re as impressed as I am.)

Midnight Music: Dido – White Flag (Collin McLoughlin Remix) [Pteropus-Step/D&B]

The last time I mentioned Collin on this blog was for his stupefyingly good deep house mix. Before that I was ranting on twitter about his vocal dubstep tracks that blew us all out of the water. Last week he dropped a liquid drum & bass remix of White Flag by Dido. Yes, that Dido. Di Freaking “Dear Slim, I wrote you but you still ain’t calling” do. Not only did he provide his own vocal recording for the remix, but the production is on point. The potent drum and bass chops that none of us new he had, shine through. There’s a sensibility about what to take away and what to keep, the mark of an artist who can’t help but go places. The build around 2:15 is silky smooth, and there’s a dude singing Dido. Because fuck your gender roles bro. The tune is dancey without being overbearing or at all harsh. So much to like here, and this continues to prove that Collin McLoughlin isn’t actually human, but just some Jedi producer sent back in time to usher in the era of the Wyld Stallions or something.

Midnight Music: Rameses B – Transcend [Elvish Drum & Bass]

Rameses B is one of the most talented producer I’ve ever seen actually succeed at IndieGogo. The Galaxy of Dreams 2 compilation by Liquicity is incredible, and there’s a tremendous amount of sick new Drum & Bass that I’ll be covering in the coming days & weeks. But tonight, sit back, relax and vibe on one of the most delicious liquid tracks you’ve ever heard. He builds sonic worlds and then invites you to lay on the grass. This is some excellent stuff, so don’t sleep on it or the compilation it’s on.
