To celebrate Katy B hitting #1 in the UK with her new album Little Red, I decided to put up one of the tunes from it, Crying for No Reason. This is everything a video should be, especially with the chops that Katy B has. I hope she gets her fair share of success and some exposure in the USA to boot, because her ability to blend vocals & beats is fantastic and needs to start being injected in the USA pop engine ASAP. It’s not easy to beat both Ellie Goulding & London Grammar, but there you have it folks. (via Mixmag)

Sting Makes $2,000 A Day For Something Not His & Because Puffy Is An Idiot.
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/articles/entertainment-articles/fun-fact-sting-makes-2000-royalties-every-day-every-breath-take/
In a fascinating article written for Celebrity Net Worth, Brian Warner documents how Sting’s association with “Every Breath You Take” has become one of the most hilariously profitable things anyone has ever done. Apparently, because the songwriting is credited 100% to Sting, he’s earning the vast majority of the royalties and has for the entire history of the song. This would’ve been bad enough for the other two Police members, but then, Puff Daddy came in and sampled the tune…without getting permission. Diddy’s rap version would go on to sell 7 million copies worldwide, and Sting would take 100% of that. Even though his vocals aren’t on the Diddy track at all. So now, Sting gets 730k per year because of it, just in case you didn’t think USA/UK IP/copyright/licensing laws weren’t completely fucked.

Crimes Against Autotune: Relevance and Vanity in Pop Videos
An old friend of mine, Caitlin Burns, brings up an exceedingly interesting point that I don’t think anyone else is talking about. Pop music is increasingly being used as a way for fancy rich people to play fancy rich games and flirt with being even more famous. The possibility of ANY video to go viral based on some weird eldritch magicks that “no one” understands ensures that we now, have this available to our eyes:
EP of the Week – Anybody Out There by Stan SB

This week, I’ve got this tight little EP that I am kind of excited about. I am a big fan of non-EDM genres pulling in beats and other elements from trance, drum & bass, techno, dubstep, etc, but I get very sad when I hear good beats being wasted on bad pop. This kid got dropped on me by MrSuicideSheep, and I dashed for the EP. I wasn’t really sure if the single was just a random track or the sound. Boy was I in for a treat.
