The producers are getting younger and younger. For this week’s motivational midnight music, get a load of this 17 year old out of Sweden. The reworking of the amazing Pendulum track “The Island” is a masterful, driving progressive house anthem that I’m kicking myself for not discovering sooner. The euphoria is strong with this kid and I’m hoping that nothing gets in his way. Because seriously, I’ve been waiting for the pendulum (you see what I did there?) to swing away from the big room electro crapola into some potent melodic. And this guy’s got the chops to lead the charge.

How To Make A Pop Hit By Brett Domino (I & II)
Laughing Squid tipped me off to this fantastic video on how to make a modern pop hit. I do enjoy the evolution of these things, and Brett Domino manages to capture the shifting target that is “whatever the hell do you people want” in their radio play. Now that everyone has heard the Jason Derulo song that he’s playing fast and loose with in the tune, check out this breakdown above. Brett is quite entertaining and the freshness of the process is lovely. Especially with the inspirational shout outs to Jennifer Lawrence. Bassoons are a welcome addition to any pop hit, just saying. He did a follow-up this weekend moving from the pop vocal hit to how to add sick choruses (what’s the plural of chorus?) to your amazing pop track. Kudos to you Mr. Domino. And now I feel like I just said goodbye to a Bond villain.
Mix of The Weekend: Kaskade’s EDC Las Vegas Live Set [American As Apple Pie!]
In case you weren’t one of the millions of unlucky people like myself who didn’t make it out to the Electric Sky for EDCLV, Kaskade once again comes to the rescue to round out your weekend. He dropped his hour long set at the Kinetic Cathedral, the largest stage ever constructed in the USA. Because Rotella said so. Good on you Kaskade for continuing to make this all happen and putting it out to the people. Can’t wait to see this music portal. (via EDMTunes, they’ve got the tracklist too, in case you’re as impressed as I am.)
Luigi Stare Replicated In Real Life; Chamillionaire Rejoices!
In case you missed the luigi death stare/Chamillionaire mashup that went viral when Mario Kart 8 came out, it’s below. Someone leveled the meme up with a Disney related death stare that wins all over the place. This is totally music related I swear. I’m really hoping someone does a sick dubstep remix of “Ridin’ Dirty” so Chamillionaire can come back for a minute. I miss that dude. (via Laughing Squid)

10 Tips for Safely Navigating an Entrance Search at a Festival
The festival lawyer continues to kill it when it comes to critical information that party people and festival attendees need to know. I had no clue about several of these tips and I’m a theoretical smartypants. Educate the mind and tell your friends.

It is just about impossible to enter a music festival, concert, rave or any kind of a major sporting event these days without being searched as a condition of entry.
This isn’t likely to change. If anything, the trend is towards more security at big events. For example, Electric Zoo recently announced new security measures including drug-sniffing dogs stationed at all entrances and the use of undercover narcotics officers to patrol the festival grounds.
Obviously, festivals need to be able to search folks for weapons and keep people safe. But what about the festival goers? Do you have any rights if a search goes too far or you run into an abusive security guard? Or did you give them all up at the entrance?
Here is some legal knowledge (and practical tips) that can help you navigate that entrance search like this guy:
TIP #1: KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

Midnight Music: Dido – White Flag (Collin McLoughlin Remix) [Pteropus-Step/D&B]
The last time I mentioned Collin on this blog was for his stupefyingly good deep house mix. Before that I was ranting on twitter about his vocal dubstep tracks that blew us all out of the water. Last week he dropped a liquid drum & bass remix of White Flag by Dido. Yes, that Dido. Di Freaking “Dear Slim, I wrote you but you still ain’t calling” do. Not only did he provide his own vocal recording for the remix, but the production is on point. The potent drum and bass chops that none of us new he had, shine through. There’s a sensibility about what to take away and what to keep, the mark of an artist who can’t help but go places. The build around 2:15 is silky smooth, and there’s a dude singing Dido. Because fuck your gender roles bro. The tune is dancey without being overbearing or at all harsh. So much to like here, and this continues to prove that Collin McLoughlin isn’t actually human, but just some Jedi producer sent back in time to usher in the era of the Wyld Stallions or something.
