Midnight Music: Kito & Reija Lee ft. Zebra Katz – WORD$ (DJ Slink Remix) [Sick Jersey Club]

Jersey Club is evolving right in front of us. The genre that is best known for bed squeak noises and confusing R&B sample usage has begun to mature & blossom. This DJ Slink remix of WORD$ is a potent turn of events when it comes to the use of irregular beats, as we’ve seen in the genre. Vocal work on point, balanced against an evolving soundscape, it almost seems like an indie infusion into the genre, which is a fantastic development. The almost-rock beats push against a rhythm that smells of R&B, but only just so. DJ Slink has my attention & kudos to Kito, Reija Lee & Zebra Katz for an amazing original track. (via Stoney Roads)

Native American rapper making the rounds on Facebook

Fantastic words by a Burner turning me on to this amazing new sound. Supaman, a Native American rapper, needs your attention. This dude’s technical skill is right, with his influences giving him an entirely unique and authentic sounds. Dude that can scratch, loop and mix while wearing full-on war bonnet & Native American gear? Get this dude on a stage at Coachella. Hopefully it’ll clue in some of those white girls wearing headdresses about the appropriateness of their fashion choices.

Ryan Higa Shows You How TO Be A Rapper

Ryan Higa continues to kill it on YouTube with this hilarious tip-filled video on how to make it in “the rap game” (as the kids call it these days). Higa’s got a surprisingly large spectrum of jokes, and I’m not going to lie, the Pokemon/2 Chainz joke is gold. He’s easily one of the biggest internet celebrities you’ve never heard of if you’re over the age of 18. But he’s speaking directly to the teens & pre-teens growing up with the wacky hip hop. Just imagine, if you were in HS and instead of NWA or Public Enemy or Wu-Tang, you had Drake, Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz. It’s a weird time to be alive. Midnight Music: Rook Milo – Bodyroll [Soulful Bass]

V-Man of FNT bringing the fire once again. This “Bodyroll” by Rook Milo is fresh. The synthed vocals pushed out over the the irregular bass backend creates a minimal but massive tune. There almost sinister vibe that Rook Milo is able to capture at 1:45 is a great sign that there’s a lot more awesome sounds to come from this kid. It’s not only sexy, but can also add to the hard vibe of a set if it’s set up correctly. A crew of strings assist the bass in giving the track an orchestral quality that I don’t hear in bass music much these days, so kudos to Rook Milo for injecting that into this. (via FreshNewTracks)

Mix Of The Weekend: Sundale Sessions Summer 2014 – Jorn Van Deynhoven [Summer Trance]

I’ve got a real treat for y’all this weekend. Jorn van Deynhoven is back with a gorgeous summer mix of trance & progressive. It’s a potent shift from some of the more classic & hard trance sounds I’ve grown accustomed to hearing from his sets, but totally welcome. The hour is filled with lush, driving beats, mixed seamlessly. This has all the hallmarks of a top tier set, anywhere from Ibiza to Miami to LA to Amsterdam. The mix even seems to dip into deep house at times, but it pushes back into progressive & gorgeous trance, especially in the second half of the mix. Take a listen while you wind down the rest of your weekend.

This Guy Set Up His Camera To Make it Look Like Statues Taking Selfies

Quick, someone tell The Chainsmokers. Statues are taking selfies now.

On a recent trip to the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork, Ireland, reddit user Jazsus_ur_lookin_well came up with a fun photo series by setting up his camera to make it look like statues were taking selfies.

Aside from the staff giving you weird looks, it’s a funny way to bridge the past with the present.

Midnight Music: Haywire – Everchanging [Dream Hop]

Haywyre has been killing it for a little while now, and this new track is exactly what he needs to catapult into the realm of popularity he deserves to be at. The maestro is jaw-droppingly good at creating sounds you didn’t know you wanted to hear. There is synth work that should be taught in graduate level audio engineering courses. I consistently hear work from this guy that you barely hear in obscure psy-trance or IDM, much less used WELL. Everchanging morphs from a chilled, almost ambient downtempo track into some surprisingly competent glitch hop. This soars as it transforms itself into a potent electro funk track, and I’m not even sure Electro Funk is a genre (yet). Monstercat made a huge pick up with this one, and if you don’t think so at the end of this track, I’ll buy you a coke.

The Locals Project: Local Techno, House and Trance DJs @ Santos Party House! (FREE PARTY!)

The_Locals_Facebook_Timeline_Banner (2)

Right as most of the burners start disappearing from the city to head out to that thing in Nevada, The Locals Project is putting together a great event featuring talent living & working right here in NYC. With House, Techno, Progressive & even a Trance DJ or two, The Locals focuses on making sure some of the fantastic talent living and working here in Gotham get the recognition they deserve. It’s so easy to just celebrate the headliners or those getting flown around all over the world playing to packed rooms of screaming fans, but when it comes to the dozens of regular/local parties here in NYC, there are definite DJs that stand out. Not only for working hard and making the events happen, but also opening/closing/assisting the headliners in making the party as awesome as possible. They’re also pushing out a petition to get Electric Zoo to showcase local talent, which totally deserves your attention and signature.

Check out the boatload of music that the DJs have pushed out to get you excited for this event. Seriously, it’s 6+ hours of homegrown beats & mixes, something in there for the whole family to love.  If you’re in town, head to the Santos Party House next Saturday and high-five some of your neighbors here in the Gotham Scene. Hit up the FB Event page here and tell yo friends!

Midnight Music – Chance The Rapper, Wyclef Jean, & Many More Singing The “Arthur” Theme!

This feels like a charity sing-along frankly. It’s so triumphant, euphoric and full of stars you’d think there had been an earthquake or someone associated with the show died. But the Arthur theme is in full effect here, with a bunch of singers coming out to get the words out to you in a soulful and magical way. To note, the tune builds for 3 minutes, enveloping you in warm song. Everyday can be wonderful.

Midnight Music: Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne – Rather Be (Steve James Remix) [Progressive Sweetness]

If I’ve not made myself clear in the past, I’m a huge fan of the up & coming talent here on the blerg. And Steve James, the upstart from outside Pittsburgh, is definitely at the bleeding edge of that new wave of talent. The kid has pushed out one euphoric remix after another, and this new one is no exception. Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne put together a winner of a track in “Rather Be” and the rework by Steve James is exactly what the last few weeks of festival season need. If you’re in Pittsburgh, check out him out opening for The Chainsmokers  Motivational Mondays continue with this potent, positive & progressive track that is a must listen if you’re into that end of the house universe.
