Midnight Music: Daft Punk & Jay-Z – Computerized. Not Kidding!

Leaked Daft Punky + Jay-Z collaboration from around the Tron era it looks like. Confirmed by Pitchfork, but who knows, Jay-Z could show up tomorrow and make me look like a dick. But check it out, and feel that unique DP vocoder analog synth wash over you & decide for yourself. “Computerized” is currently sweeping across the blogs, so I expect a dozen of your “with-it” friends will post about it tomorrow. Smile & know you’ve heard it already. Also, the tune seems to be from “Son of Flynn” from the Tron Soundtrack. (via Pitchfork & EDMTunes).

I got an iTouch, but I can’t feel. ~Jay-Z

Midnight Music: Jack Beats – Beatbox

OWSLA sent out the call and the world of music related heads answered. With appearances by Flux Pavilion, Annie Mac, Benga, Skream, Atrak, Rusko, Baauer, Mista jam, Fake Blood and dozens more, this is truly the star-studded video of the season. A proper dance tune, the combination of bass, beats and the video showing the love of the party is exactly what’s needed as we start to melt into spring.

Midnight Music: Recognise – Fred V & Grafix

Fred V & Grafix do some great work, so I’m kicking myself that I didn’t get a chance to listen to this track until a few days ago. Two weeks old and not a yammer about it? For shame Mr. Gotham, for shame. The duo are really honing their craft and the production value on this tune is off the charts. There’s this rich, lush feeling that tugs the vocals along, which are a perfect compliment to the beats. I’ll have some non-D&B soon. Maybe. I promise.

Midnight Music: Let It Go – DJ Rashad

So happy to bring you this pure bliss from DJ Rashad, released last year. The smooth, ebbing flow of the beat combined with a mantra we could all do well to practice more often. Slick UK D&B from DJ Rashad, who recently almost set the Museum of Natural History on fire with his set along with mixmaster DJ Spinn. Yea, DJs are spinning on Friday nights at museums in NYC, big whoop wanna fight about it? Let the tune play out and relax, let some things go, even just for the duration of the song.

Midnight Music: Katy B

To celebrate Katy B hitting #1 in the UK with her new album Little Red, I decided to put up one of the tunes from it, Crying for No Reason. This is everything a video should be, especially with the chops that Katy B has. I hope she gets her fair share of success and some exposure in the USA to boot, because her ability to blend vocals & beats is fantastic and needs to start being injected in the USA pop engine ASAP. It’s not easy to beat both Ellie Goulding & London Grammar, but there you have it folks. (via Mixmag)

Midnight Music: 2Cellos – Thunderstruck & Welcome To The Jungle – On Cello

Ok, I really like this. These two play the everliving fuck out of a couple of cellos, to the point where the bows get all messed up and ripped. Can that please be a thing? Intense classical instrument performance, with replacement bows halfway through the show when they inevitably break under the pressure of their sheer awesome? Also, the video below of them performing Welcome To The Jungle, would make the song totally acceptable to put on at a bar with a jukebox on the Lower East Side. Also, they have sweet black cellos in the second video.

Midnight Mix! Luvstep V By Dirty South Joe & Flufftronix

I’m going to try and make an honest effort to push at least one mix out into the universe from my various repositories/basins of tunes, because sometimes people want a bit more than one track at a time. So, I’m happy to inaugurate this attempt with the 5th & newly expanded edition of the series I’ve been a fan of since its inception (if you’re a fan of the series you know why that’s a terrible joke). The combination of hip hop, movie vocals, chillstep, drum & bass, UK garage, lovetrap r&b and whatever else they want to throw in there makes for a wonderful & romantic two hours. Listen to it with someone you’re sweet on.

Midnight Music: Body Language by Queen (Holy Crap 80s)

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, I’m taking you all the way back to the early 80’s. While most people know Queen for their over-the-top anthems & Waynes’s World references, this music video reminds that there was a time when this shit was scandalous, and you couldn’t just twerk on stage without being savaged in the media…wait…where was I going with this? Oh right, being scandalous. So there’s a lot of that in the video, but there’s also this almost soothing beat that was pretty ahead of its time if you think about it. It gets NSFW fast so watch out.

Midnight Music: CHVRCHES – The Mother We Share (Moon Boots Remix)

Tonight, I wanted to give you some peppy but chilled out deliciousness that you recognized, but was still new enough that it kept you guessing. This rework of the hit by CHVRCHES by Moon Boots is something I could only describe as “twee house” the first time I heard it. It’s a dancey but not high energy, and is definitely a sweet tune to play while kissing someone you’re crushing on. Or walking on the moon, you know, whichever.

Midnight Music: Pussy Riot’s New Music Video!

While there aren’t subtitles on the vids yet, it seems Pussy Riot has taken the footage of them being harassed/assaulted in Sochi and dropped a new music video using it. The video is in your face, very hooliganism-style and I’m super glad they didn’t get their asses beat any harder than they did. I mean, zero ass beatings would be preferable, but it doesn’t seem like that is going to be happening any time soon. Check it out, and then let’s see what happens now that the games are over.
