There’s not much to say about this besides the fact that I think this is the best use of “Bound 2” I’ve seen that doesn’t involve James Franco. I had no idea Thomas The Tank Engine’s theme goes FREAKING PERFECTLY with Kanye. Now I want to hear a series of Tank Engine melodies mashed up with Kanye, Lil Wayne, and vintage DMX. There is an entire world of crazy mashups on Soundcloud, some triumphant, others horrifying. This kind of goofy fun shit is why I love Soundcloud, and why I’m so sad that they’re clamping down, giving up the nest to Universal and generally becoming a pile of un-fun business people. If I wanted that out of a music service, I’d use iTunes. Just kidding, I’d never use iTunes.

3 Rap Mashups You’ll Laugh At.
First up is Busta Rhymes vs. Thomas The Tank Engine. This works way more than I thought it would. Also, holy crap Busta raps fast. This gets out of hand, and it’s only 45 seconds long.
Slim Shady beats + Gas Pedal = An intense amount of win. Especially considering a whole lot of young listeners have no idea what this beat is. The end gets a little dumb but that just shows what happens when you turn your knobs all the way.
Last one is kind of shocking. Ludacris + Angry Birds works way too well. Like, I’m kind of shocked, though I really shouldn’t be. This + the Busta stuff proves that we should just make a cartoon with Luda, Busta, Marshall Mathers & Nas fighting the evil Chris Brown Empire. Along the way they learn the meaning of friendship, justice and learning, is this possible? Can we make this happen?
Midnight Music: Eclectic Method – Hodor [Hodor Electro]
Now that you’ve finished your weekly emotional manipulation at the hands of HBO & GRRM, I bring you something I can’t quite explain, or decide entirely whether I love or despise it. Eclectic Method does some amazing mashup work and has built a pretty dedicated following over the last few years. You can tell there’s a severe level of mastery when it comes to the sophistication of some of these tracks, and it seems this new one is taking the idea even further. A pumping, upbeat electro tune, made entirely from hodor-related samples. It’s one thing to make electro, it’s another thing to make electro just from “Hodor.” I’m not sure if this is more of a commentary on the genre or this guy’s insane mastery of the medium. What do you think?
Midnight Music: Rakohus – Biggie + Sonic = Win
I don’t know how I missed this the last time I was in Philly, but Rakohus officially needs to do everything ever. Not only is Sonic 3 one of my favorite games EVER, but the Biggie usage was appropriate and excellently mixed in. Rakohus has a bunch of these videos on his YouTube channel. Not only are the mashups made of win, but there’s dozens of chiptune remixes there too. Just in case you don’t believe me, check out the 8bit remix of Royals. Yes, that Royals. AND because I’m feeling generous, the 8bit remix of Get Lucky.
“I’m tired of ignoring that I march to a different beat.” ~Charlie Sheen
While he may be a coked out, tiger bloodied jackass who blew one of the best gigs in Hollywood, but hey man, if that’s what it takes to be true to yourself, then you’re definitely #winning in my book. Don’t let someone else silence your beat. Eclectic Method dropped this cute remix of his interviews when that whole thing exploded back in 2011, just in case you need a minor win this morning.
Someone Made A Mash-Up Of All The Zelda. Yes, Including The Weird Animated One On The CD-I.
Just in case you were a fan of VG music, someone has taken the entirety of the Legend of Zelda game history, and created a song just from the sound effects. Like, this must have taken hours and hours to just record/cut the damn sound effects, much less compose this thing & actually toss all of the footage into a video editor. The mind reels, but you, the reader benefit. Check it out, and if you know what the “Well, Excuuuuse me Princess!” is from, hit up the comments to prove you’re old school. The show was a staple of my childhood, bet you don’t know though! (via Kotaku)
Album of RIGHT NOW: Chrono Jigga by “2 Mello”

Anyone who was anyone in 2004 remembers The Grey Album, heralding the birth of legit mash-up culture and solidifying DJ Dangermouse’s up-and-coming don’t give fuck status. The playful beats and chords mixed wonderfully and created a laudable success. If you’ve never heard of this stuff, imagine if you saw this randomly 9 years ago.
Various mashup projects with the Black Album, with varying levels of success. The Linkin Park one came close to topping the Grey Album and then it all kind of petered out. Until now that is. This remix project is fantastic. The melodies are used excellently, the samples are dropped at just the right time and the project is neat and pay-what-you-can. Exactly what a hit should be, and I encourage you to toss a few bucks into the tip jar if you ever played the game or rocked the album. It’s worth it to reward people taking cool cross-boundary risks, plus hell, you probably spent more than that on corn you didn’t even want to day 😀
