“Pay-Per-Inch” Vinyl System Created by Label Vlek

I have to say, I really hope this catches on. The Belgian label Vlek has hilariously simplified vinyl purchasing for all of the record-steady heads out there. 1 Euro per inch, postage & packaging included for the EU, Africa, Asia & Latin America. Apparently USA/AU/NZ have a 5 euro surcharge, but it’s still cheaper than before for some of the smaller EPs. Hit up the shop if you’re a fan of Sagat or Squeaky Lobster and try to get it from them directly so this idea generates some buzz/legs. (via FACT)

FACT Drops Ancient History ft. Kanye, Biggie, Eminem, ODB, Dr. Dre & Tupac Before They Were Famous!

FACT! is my go to source for Hip Hop, Trap, UK Garage, Drum & Bass, Dubstep and all things urban these days. And stuff like this is exactly the reason why. They dropped an exhaustive & well researched list of hip hoppers before they were world famous. Kanye in 98 looking straight nerdy (1:50 in), Kendrick Lamar in a true freestyle street cypher & Tupac at 19 rapping on a bus (4:20 in)! This is definitely not to be missed if you’re fan of the greats, both of yesteryear and of today. There’s a lot of good stuff in this slideshow, so get at the illness and get the week off to a rhyme-alicious start.

Midnight Music: Jacoo Issues A Gorgeous Post-Rock, Chill Tune Featuring Alan Watts.

Tonight, I’m giving up a mellow, vibe-y tune that the ethereal & fey Jacoo dropped over the weekend. “Watching You Breathe” uses one of my favorite vocal samples of all time, taken from one of Alan Watts’ famous series of lectures on the mind, life and the ideas of death and rebirth. It’s some far out stuff man, if you pick up what I’m laying down. Smooth ambient vibes, excellent sampling & some amazing modifications to the sound. Get at it, and check out some of the rest of Jacoo’s stuff. Talent rises, and it’s totally what’s needed to round out the weekend, if you’re still fighting the eventual Monday.

Someone Made A Mash-Up Of All The Zelda. Yes, Including The Weird Animated One On The CD-I.

Just in case you were a fan of VG music, someone has taken the entirety of the Legend of Zelda game history, and created a song just from the sound effects. Like, this must have taken hours and hours to just record/cut the damn sound effects, much less compose this thing & actually toss all of the footage into a video editor. The mind reels, but you, the reader benefit. Check it out, and if you know what the “Well, Excuuuuse me Princess!” is from, hit up the comments to prove you’re old school. The show was a staple of my childhood, bet you don’t know though! (via Kotaku)

10 Safety Tips Women Should Know when going to their First Music Festival

The Festival Lawyer is back with some super critical tips for avoiding creepsters and other terrible stuff at festivals. May not be necessary for my more varsity ladies out there, and it is a bit gender biased, but still really good information that definitely needs to get spread out. #10 is mandatory for us all.

10-safety-tips

In my life, I have four cool older sisters, the awesome Mrs. Festival Lawyer and a rad little feminista daughter. As Hank Moody would say, “I’m a big fan of women, I have all their albums.”

Lately, I’ve started to wonder how safe festivals and raves are for women. In 2013, there was a report of a sexual assault of a 16 year old girl at Electric Zoo.  Two sexual assaults were reported at the Made in America Festival. Three men allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage girl at Stagecoach in 2012.

Because of that, I thought it might make sense to ask several long time female festivalgoers and ravers what tips they would give to a woman attending her first event. Before we get to the tips we need to discuss the topic of “victim blaming.”  As Leandra Pelonquin, former director of the YWCA Rape clinic explains,

One of my co-workers was presenting…

Jezebel Surprises With Momentary Relevance To The EDM Community.

http://jezebel.com/the-five-people-you-stand-next-to-at-a-concert-1501286416

In a quick “listicle” style, Jezebel rattled off a surprisingly accurate list of the 5 people you see at every show. They used the word concert because they’re old, but this list could apply perfectly to any dance party or DJ performance/festival you’ve been to in the last 6 months. Where the hell is that weed coming from, and why did you spend $120 on getting in here if you’re going to play Candy Crush Saga for half the guy’s set? (via Old Timey Hedgehog)

Midnight Music: Free New Hotness From MitiS

MitiS has been blogged about here repeatedly, and I hope continues to maintain the level of quality that earns me geeking out over him as hard as I do. The melodic, lush, chill, but still driving Drum & Bass that we all crave. I’d say more, but it’s a free download & MitiS, so put it into your face if you’re awake 😀
