How to Survive Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas in 50 Mostly Easy Steps

While I won’t be in Vegas this weekend, this list is quite wonderful for all of my peeps that are going to spend 3 days at the speedway enjoying the crap out of themselves.

Even if you’re ready, you’re not ready.

You probably know @AdultRaverProbs from his monthly radio show on DI Radio, #StrippedSounds, or, perhaps you just follow him on twitter and enjoy his taco obsessions. What you might not know is that he is an EDCLV veteran and lives in Las Vegas, which makes him the best person to pen this FestFriday post. Here, he offers his advice for how to best prepare for EDCLV.

The 2014 edition of Electric Daisy Carnival is mere days away. For three nights, the world’s biggest DJs will perform under the electric sky from dusk til dawn in the city that never sleeps. Festival season is in full swing, but for many ravers, club kids and other assorted dance music lovers, EDC Las Vegas is Super Bowl Sunday, the World Series and the Stanley Cup rolled into one.

EDC Las Vegas is unlike any other festival on…

Midnight Music: SomeKindaWonderful – Reverse (Steve James Remix) [Progressive House]

I’ve kept seeing this guy on my radar, and this latest track proves that the Force is strong with him. With the slow death of Big Room House finally upon us, the melodic, progressive end of the House spectrum is on the rise. The festival sets are already starting to reflect this trend, and I bet Animals has been played 1/20th of the times it was played by this time last Summer. The remix is slick with some excellent progressive & positive anthemic vibes. Monday is over, you made it, relax and gear up, the week’s gonna be awesome. Steve James is someone to watch, you heard it here first. He’s 16 but he’s going to do some great things, just you watch.

Earworm Of The Month: Alexander Popov – Elegia [Actual Trance]

I’ve listened to this daily for weeks. It figures into my commute at some point during the day. Sometimes to amp up, sometimes to recharge after the day, but unless a long set has my attention, this is THE track. I’ve been watching the rise of the new splinter factions in Trance (illustrated superbly by my boy Matt @ EDMTunes), and one of the guys who came out of nowhere is Alexander Popov. Amrada picked this kid up and he just spun at Sensation in Russia. There’s a punch to the bassline I’ve not heard in a while and the chords are classic trance perfection. The build is, even for a retail track, long and drawn into a gorgeous throbbing break with a transition that doesn’t include some obnoxious drop. That’s right, it’s not anthem trance, it’s just that deep, flowing Trance sound that you love. I love it, maybe you need to listen to it a few times to see where I’m coming from. Or possibly blast it while driving/exercising/riding dolphins. What’s that you say? You’d love a mix of this and a bunch of other Alexander Popov tracks so you can just dig into this trance sound? Check out below and thank me later.

Midnight Music: The Doors – People Are Strange (Infected Mushroom Remix) [Psychedelic Rock/Trance]

Tonight, I wanted to prep your Throwback Thursday with a track that’s both old & new. Infected Mushroom’s project re-imagining The Doors is shockingly good. This particular tune was one of my favorites, with the update being tasteful and compelling. The additional layers of bass & synth rock are never overdone, and when the triumphant power chords hit, you wonder how the original track didn’t have these elements. Put it into your face and if you can actually find it in one folder online, get it. Immediately.

Drum & Bass + Insane Racing Game Footage

I had forgotten this existed and now I’m astonished I didn’t remember. Car gaming going insanely fast, looping the loop repeatedly in every direction. I thought to myself, I’d play the shit out of this game. Smooth track, tight controls, ridiculous car details, what’s up. Not only does it exist, but the trailer for it is absolute madness.200 person maps?! There’s a Twitch stream, so now this just needs to get all escher style & crazy in map design and we’re good to go. Shout out to Sarah Burgess & Goku for the ill track, which if you wanted separate from the automobiles, here it is for your aural pleasure. (via r/oddlysatisfying)

Midnight Music: Mayo – Rock With You [House-Infused R&B]

I don’t know who got on this idea, but they need to stay on it. The infusion of uptempo house beats to some of the smooth lyrical work that I’ve not found anywhere. It either comes off trappy or kitch. This gets away with fantastic audio modulation because the beat doesn’t quit and the lyrics are mature and on point. I’m looking forward to this blend of R&B, hip hop and house come together as production costs come down. A few beat makers, a vocalist & one engineer with a laptop and you’ve got your self a new clan.

Upgrade your Fest Experience by following the 3 “Festival-Buddy Golden Rules”

Fesitval-Buddy

This article started with me wanting to talk about what happened at Electric Zoo and the need for people to “Rave Responsibly”. You know, things like the need for accurate information, testing kits, and organizations that promote “Harm Reduction” and other practical advice. But when I started to write that article, I realized we needed to talk about something else first.

Did you know that PLUR used to have a second R? And that the second R stood for “Responsibility?” The question I keep asking myself is, “Do people still follow that second ‘R’?” Are Festival Buddies still taking care of their friends?

If so, why do we now see so many drunken folks left passed out or wandering aimlessly around by themselves at Coachella, sometimes looking like an episode of The Walking Dead? And how come a young woman is taking 6 tabs of Molly at Electric Zoo…

Psy & Snoop Dogg Get Wasted.

I’m not really sure how an idea like this gets storyboarded. “Ok, Snoop, we’re gonna need you to get real drunk with Psy.” And then they just put cameras on them? Where did the skipping come from? Also, the beer goggles within karaoke is nice. Expect this to get shared a bunch of times but not to go mega viral like Gangnam Style. They can’t all be winners, but this is amusing enough.
