I Feel Reminds Me Of A Whole New World.

I feel the magic carpet 151I’d not been out to an I Feel Party in a couple of months, but there I was, in the middle of a packed dancefloor, significantly earlier in the evening than I thought I would be, dressed in some of my better Middle Eastern finery. Their rotating concept/theme wheel had landed on “Magic Carpet Ride” an amalagam of various Middle Eastern & Arabic motifs. Any concern I had that this was going to be the Arabic equivalent of blonde chicks at Coachella in War Bonnets, was swept away the moment I entered. The music pulled me towards the depths of the floor, in front of their increasingly impressive LED & lighting work. The raw Brooklyn space had been wrought into a moderately decorated floor & hallway, which led to an outdoor hookah lounge/chill space and a massive outdoor area for smoking and hanging around. Midnight Music: Laura Doggett – Moonshine (Jakwob Remix)

Laura Dogget - Moonshine (Jakwob Remix)

Jakwob is a name you probably haven’t heard of on the American side of the pond, unless you’re a huge fan of UK dubstep and bass music (like myself). His remixes & original work has been a shining beacon of quality in the dubstep, drumstep & chill bass spaces. This remix of a delicious melancholy tune by the irrepressible Laura Doggett. The irregular bass provides a stunning backdrop for her sublime vocal work to glide along. This is some serious UK underground and Jakwob needs as much exposure as possible, especially when selecting amazing vocal artists like Laura Doggett to work with. Don’t sleep on this one, it’s hoodie weather music, bomp it in good (non-Beatz) headphones in the rain.

Playlist Of The Week: KSKD Radio By Kaskade (Spotify Win)

https://play.spotify.com/user/kaskadeofficial/playlist/6yNEIJWUoSvgsAFT60NRF5

Can Kaskade do for dance music & Spotify what Kanye did for Twitter & hip hop? I think so. This expanding/evolving playlist on Spotify is going to be watched as he adds more and more tunes to it over his touring and insanely awesome life. Keep this one as a favorite. With tunes from CASHMERE Cat, ODESZA, Yuna, Caribou, SOHN, Keys N Krates, and Ella Fitzgerald, it’s pretty obvious that Kaskade is even more awesome than we all thought he was. If this playlist becomes a space for Kaskade to feature his favorite new and upcoming tracks, in addition to peppering it with his own hits and new stuff, I think this could do a lot for Spotify as a listening platform for artist curation, not just “all the music forever.” This is critical for Spotify’s continued development, especially in America where people listen to what they’re told to listen to, instead of searching out their own deep dives for tracks (pop music spectrum, put down your pitchforks crate diggers).

Favorite it, and hit me up on Spotify if you’d like. Same Bat-name, Same Bat-profile pic.

A Mother’s Crusade to Amend the RAVE Act & How You Can Help Make Festivals Safer

This is one of the most important posts about dance, drugs, EDM and harm reduction you’ll ever see. The Festival Lawyer spends time explaining the history (if you don’t know what the “crack house statute” is, get to reading) of the law and how it’s helped to shape the modern EDM/festival era here in the USA. There’s way more info out there, but this needs to be shared widely and read by anyone who cares about dance music or seeing any of their favorite DJs ever again without the insane security/bullshit associated with Electric Zoo this year.

Join The Festival Lawyer, Showbams and a new coalition called Amend The Rave Act (ATRA) to make Festivals safer for everyone.

The “RAVE” Act stands for the “Reducing Americans’ Vulnerability to Ecstasy Act”. It’s a federal law that might win the title for “most misnamed law ever” since instead of reducing young people’s vulnerability to the drug it has greatly increased ecstasy’s danger at festivals and raves.

Through a series of unintended consequences, the RAVE Act has made festivals much more dangerous places than they need to be. This year alone, two people died and about 20 were hospitalized at the Mad Decent Block Party in August in Maryland. There were also drug-related deaths at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas and at LA’s Hard Summer festival.

Additional safety measures relating to drug use (also known as “harm reduction measures”) could be taken at a lot of music festivals and…

Midnight Music: Vianney – Je Te Déteste (Glastrophobie Remix) [Deep French House]

Vianney - Je Te Deteste (Glastrophobie Remix)

I was tipped off to this soothing & upbeat tune by V/Man, an authority over at FreshNewTracks. I am a huge fan of the lack of English, and the beauty of the French language is on display here. The deep vocal vibes are complimented by some choral beats & a funky guitar. I’ve talked about Glastrophobie a couple of times and I’ve gotta say, I keep coming back to the competence & orchestrally styled composition. There’s a sense of harmonies here that you don’t find in most producers of his stature, and I cannot thank him enough for it. Put it into your face and gear up for the next week ahead of you.
