Tonight, I’m super proud to signal boost a pretty damn good offering from a sick rising DJ in Philly. This random Cowboy Bebop bootleg is a great freshman offering from the producer. The transition into synthy goodness at two minutes can only be described as tantalizing. I can’t wait to see where he goes with this stuff this year, and if you want more JustDan goodness, check the mix below. The blend of fidget, soul, R&B, jazzy hip hoppy goodness, house and a dash of disco should satisfy. Watch out for the Hey Arnold sample 🙂
Why “Man” Is Used The Way It’s Used.
This kinda speaks for itself huh? (via Traditional Hard Robots)
“If your heart is broken, make art with the pieces.” ~Shane Koyczan
This guy has done some breathtaking poetry (prominent one featured below) and as we roll into the week of cheesy V-Day malaise/capitalism, I wanted to remember that blue periods can be valuable for us all. Don’t stop creating and check him out here!

Midnight Mix: NO.SLEEP – Mix.01
If you’re looking for quality, chilled beats with a dash of ethereal and cloudy production values, I cannot recommend Odesza enough. The EP I listed is a great proof of their original work, but they’ve also started doing a great podcast featuring random hotness, linked above. Check em both out, and if you’re struggling for something to do on Valentine’s Day  hit up the show at Best Buy Theater where they’re opening for Emanicpator and you can hit up surprisingly cheap tickets here.
Deadmau5 Turns His Car Into The Most Expensive Nyan Cat Tribute In The World.
Just when you thought Holden Caulfield…I mean, erm, deadmau5, could get any wackier, EDMTunes reports (with pictures) on the hilarious paint job deadmau5 gave his ride. I wish his Coffee Run series had an external GoPro to record the reactions of people on the street or in cars driving by. For the lulz of course. (via Liz Kate of EDMTunes)
Jimi Hendrix Was Chill, Smooth & Above All Of That Jazz (PBS Digital Studios)
I really like the animated series Blank on Blank that PBS does on Youtube. The animation of classic interviews brings an interesting perspective and some clever artistic choices to a stagnant interview series that would be expected of Public Broadcasting. I’d never watched a long-form interview with Jimi, and he’s quite the character. Very chill, very groovy and quite aware of the minstrel show that was and is live music performance.
“…well, my only hope is that the guitar is mightier than the bomb.” ~Pete Seeger
I know I’m a little late to the game on this, didn’t want to take advantage of the death of a great man for an arbitrary traffic spike. Pete Seeger was a great man, and one you should take a minute to learn about if you have no idea who he was.
Midnight Music: Gouryella by Gouryella (Ferry Corsten + Tiesto)
This week for the Throwback Thursday edition of Midnight Music, I’m delighted to present a track that’s started getting radio play again. Ferry Corsten has started putting it back into his sets after a huge request for it during his weekly mix show. It shot back up in the Beatport trance charts and I’ve started to hear it again. This collaboration between two of the hottest names in trance was an instant classic that you’ll love. Also, check out my favorite Gouryella track from after Tiesto had left the group, Ligaya, which is Filipino for “happiness.”
Ten Questions With Terry Gotham: V-Squared Labs CEO Vello
1. What does it feel like to be responsible for what hundreds of thousands of event attendees see for hours at a time every year? It’s a great feeling to have and with a lot of good energy, it’s enjoyable. It’s a group experience they’re all contributing to to make something special.
2. This may be too broad but, when a club kid sees what you’re able to do and likes it and wants to do it themselves, what advice would you give them about how to start? The best way to get started is to start experimenting with trial versions of performance software. There are trial versions of most commercial visual programs, with student discounts available as well. Plenty of opportunity to get your hands on the software & experiment with it. Get yourself a good laptop or desktop or whatever you can afford and start rocking. Continue reading
