Playlist Of The Weekend: Best Music 2k14 Q1 by Jaya Prime

I’ve been listening to Jaya Prime for years, and if you don’t believe me, go listen to his Dreamstep mix. He’s thrown together an hour of tracks you won’t find anywhere else, and after listening to it, you’ll be mad about that. Inventive, cutting-edge production from Dirtwire, Nick Leon, FUME, Phutureprimitive, JacM, Bluereso, K.Sabroso & more. Seriously. This list isn’t for you weekend warriors, but if you want to hear where some of the sounds you’re hearing at clubs or festivals are going, check this out. And give Jaya Prime all the love, as this guy eats big room for breakfast.

EP Of The Week: Voyager By Minnesota [Dream Bass] Free Download!

One of my first review gigs was Minnesota at Brooklyn Bowl (check it here if you like text), so I’ve been watching his ascent through the ranks of selectros for years now with much delight. Not only did he kill it opening up for Shpongle (When you’re awesome, you find yourself at Red Rocks Ampitheater in Colorado), but he’s obliterating Webster Hall with Koan Sound on May 23rd. The new EP is lush & gorgeous, like a forest made of bass. Voyager, Golden Era & Sail Away are personal favorites. They’re excellent examples of what can be done with a good understanding of what new bass music should sound like, especially when you’re trying to showcase a unique sound and ensure you don’t get pigeonholed into a genre. Put all 6 tracks in your face and hit up the comments with your favorite. It’s out & it’s Free on his Facebook page. Hit that up, because that’s a no-bullshit sextet of quality tracks into your face. What else do you want?

Midnight Music: Andrew Rayel’s Minimix Showcasing Find Your Harmony [The Future Of Trance]

It’s Monday night. Congratulations, you made it. It’s all downhill to Friday from here. To help recharge you, I give you this sick minimix the great new hope of Trance, Andrew Rayel, put together to get you excited for his new album. That’s right, the guy who you’ve been hearing on ASOT podcasts and seeing at Trance shows hadn’t put out an album until now. This guy is responsible for so many of my favorite Trance tracks over the last couple of years. The minimix gives me hope for Trance. The vibe is unmistakably hopeful and full of the shimmering positivity that I demand from my Trance. It’s mixed in a tantalizing way, which means I’m totally hitting this album hard. Each track looks to be fun and if you’ve listened to Trance podcasts over the last few months you’ve already heard a few of these. Preorder the thing on iTunes and swim around the puddle of serotonin this album is eventually gonna bring out. (h/t to EDMTunes for the minimix tip off)

Midnight Music: Kasbo – Reaching

And the time is finally upon us. Trap is going the way of Dubstep, and we’re beginning to see chilltrap producers popping up with the competence of the wave of chillstep DJs & Producers that came before them. This maturation of the genre is starting to be my favorite time in the life of any burgeoning class of dance music. First the genre gets big, then it slowly contracts while the amazing producers take the same elements that were cranked to 11 and work with them at a controlled level, producing some astonishing work after the “party” has ended. 40 seconds in definitely puts a spin on Trap in a way that I’d not heard since Minnesota was starting out. The summer vibes combined with an almost big room house feel make for an interesting tune from someone who isn’t even out of high school yet. Hit up the Soundcloud and show the Swedish 18yr old some love.

EP Of The Week: The Blancos – Heartless Romantic

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of these guys before, but I’m a serious fan. Fresh New Tracks pushed this EP this week the day after 420, and I’m sorry it took me so long to get to it. I’ve not heard quality grunge in years, and the combination of indie vibes, hip hop lyrics, a dash of blues and some competent/inventive beat work really got my attention. Check it out, and make sure to hit The Blancos up, because any band claiming to rock out from Gotham City will get infinite props from me.

Deadmau5 Trolls Wildztylez In Retailiation For Chord Jack & Revives FuckMyLife

And with that, deadmau5 has returned to soundcloud. EDMTunes reports that after deadmau5 confronted Wildstylez about what he saw to be a clear rip off job, he dove into the studio and produced some blistering hardstyle (below). Moral of the story, don’t piss off Joel.

Midnight Music: Tiesto’s Uplifting Remix of Buffalo Bill By Moxie Raia

If you look up sugary anthem trance in the dictionary, right there under Robert Miles & Darude, you’d see some of Tiesto’s most successful work. The Club Life podcast has showcased his slow shift into the middle space between trance, house & electro, but this anthem gets into your head and doesn’t leave. It’s big room pixie stick progressive at its best. So if you’re fretting work tomorrow, or you had to work today, crank it and let this take you away for a few more minutes.

Midnight Music: Tank! Bootleg by JustDan

Tonight, I’m super proud to signal boost a pretty damn good offering from a sick rising DJ in Philly. This random Cowboy Bebop bootleg is a great freshman offering from the producer. The transition into synthy goodness at two minutes can only be described as tantalizing. I can’t wait to see where he goes with this stuff this year, and if you want more JustDan goodness, check the mix below. The blend of fidget, soul, R&B, jazzy hip hoppy goodness, house and a dash of disco should satisfy. Watch out for the Hey Arnold sample 🙂
