The year is 1991 and Hard Copy’s boner for cops is on display. NIN was a year old and the cops just couldn’t understand why there was video of his dead body that landed in a corn field in Michigan. This is amazing & why the hell was that artistic dramatization paid for? (via Metafilter)

Midnight Music Valentine’s Day Edition: All You Need Is Love by Timeflies
It’s Valentine’s Day if you’re reading this within 24hrs of it being published (hey, I can’t predict when this is going to get clicked on). So, in the spirit of both the good stuff that comes with people showing affection to each other because they’re reminded to in February and the jaw-dropping level that capital markets can sharpen and polish a product, I present ” All You Need Is Love.” This hilariously over-produced combination of “trance” and “hip hop” (I uses both terms extremely loosely here) inspires thoughts about the commercialization of love and how emotion has been co-opted for fun and profit. Though, there’s a pretty fun rhyme about Sochi. Enjoy! 😉

Midnight Music: Arkasia’s Epic Orchestral Dubstep Masterpiece “Pandemonium”
Arkasia is one of the better discoveries of my Winter 2012. There’s an astonishing quality when it comes to the sounds chosen & built for these tracks. It’s all too intense at a lot of moments in life, and I find sometimes, that can be captured competently by the right artist. It’s a rare quality that emerges when the producer knows their medium exceptionally well. Check out “The Awakening” below, for more. The orchestral but triumphant feel of the massive bass is a sound not often attempted and even more rarely achieved.
Lethal Sound System Created At The European Space Agency.
The Large European Acoustic Facility produces 154 db. That’s right, just in case you wanted to die via loudness, you could stand in this thing. It’s been described as the equivalent of standing next to several jets taking off. Just in case you needed context, the facility was created to inflict sonic conditions on satellites similar to the stresses of being launched in a rocket into space. And no, it does not play dubstep. Pandora Now Accepting Comedy & Music Submissions Directly!
In a surprising turn of events, Pandora posted a somewhat ignored announcement over the weekend. If you think you’ve got the chops, and want to bypass all of them middle-people, you can submit your comedy recordings or music/tracks directly to Pandora now. No label crap, no iTunes stupidity, just hit them up. Hey, DIY DJs & Producers, make it happen, and I’ll make channels based around your wacky comedy and combination trap/electro/chillout/disco banger just to see the Pandora algorithm sweat. Hope From Pete Seeger
I really like the idea of lots of small leaders, giving the people what they need where they are. Instead of these vast hierarchies that encourage coldness & dehumanization of the community, real local connections, perhaps even local flair besides the Wal-Mart and the pop radio station. Homogenization of culture helps no one, least of all the artists. Rest in Peace Pete.
Midnight Music: The Glitch Mob’s New Music Video For Skytoucher, Single Off “Love Death Immortality”
The new Glitch Mob album was released today, and it’s the bees knees (totes magotes). Now that I’ve gotten the retro/poser language out of the way, I can discuss the totally original production that the trio of Ooah, Boreta & ediT have brought to the fore. Many have been a bit concerned about the amped up energy, BPM & electro-metal-style synths. These guys have been killing it since Drink The Sea debuted, forever altering my party & chillout playlists. Buy the album here and check out the previous music video from their single “Can’t Kill Us” below. Expect a full album review shortly. I just want to listen to it about fifty more times first.
The Cure Announce A New Album, Dumped People Everywhere Rejoice.
Robert Smith & The Heartaches, I mean, erm, The Cure, have announced they’re putting out their 14th studio album. Possibly titled “4:14 Scream” the album was recorded when 4:13 Dream was (really? that’s what we’re going with for the next album name?). There’s going to be a live Cure DVD released and a series of their “Trilogy” live shows, in which they play 3 albums from their discography in full. So, just in case you thought he’d gotten over that girl, or if you did, get excited to cry and eat ice cream on the couch just like in high school all over again. (via FACT)
John Langdon Interview About His Market Study of $4.5 Billion Festival Industry (By EDMTunes)
Those two somewhat unassuming guys released a “Massive EDM White Paper,” which studied the $4.5billion in annual sales (give or take a few regional burns). My editor at EDMTunes was able to sit down with these guys and really get at some of the issues surrounding the industry and how corporatization of festivals is changing the culture. It’s a bit more meaty than my usual morning fare here in Gotham, but if you’re an event producer, promoter, or even an artist or a tech wanting to climb that ladder, you should probably take the time and read this.
