Jimi Hendrix Was Chill, Smooth & Above All Of That Jazz (PBS Digital Studios)

I really like the animated series Blank on Blank that PBS does on Youtube. The animation of classic interviews brings an interesting perspective and some clever artistic choices to a stagnant interview series that would be expected of Public Broadcasting. I’d never watched a long-form interview with Jimi, and he’s quite the character. Very chill, very groovy and quite aware of the minstrel show that was and is live music performance.

Midnight Music: Gouryella by Gouryella (Ferry Corsten + Tiesto)

This week for the Throwback Thursday edition of Midnight Music, I’m delighted to present a track that’s started getting radio play again. Ferry Corsten has started putting it back into his sets after a huge request for it during his weekly mix show. It shot back up in the Beatport trance charts and I’ve started to hear it again. This collaboration between two of the hottest names in trance was an instant classic that you’ll love. Also, check out my favorite Gouryella track from after Tiesto had left the group, Ligaya, which is Filipino for “happiness.”

Ten Questions With Terry Gotham: V-Squared Labs CEO Vello

Krewella identity set - Max Chang1. What does it feel like to be responsible for what hundreds of thousands of event attendees see for hours at a time every year? It’s a great feeling to have and with a lot of good energy, it’s enjoyable. It’s a group experience they’re all contributing to to make something special.

2. This may be too broad but, when a club kid sees what you’re able to do and likes it and wants to do it themselves, what advice would you give them about how to start? The best way to get started is to start experimenting with trial versions of performance software. There are trial versions of most commercial visual programs, with student discounts available as well. Plenty of opportunity to get your hands on the software & experiment with it. Get yourself a good laptop or desktop or whatever you can afford and start rocking.  Continue reading

Pussy Riot Killed It On Colbert In Their First American TV Appearance.

http://laughingsquid.com/pussy-riot-members-make-first-american-television-appearance-on-the-colbert-report/

This is probably one of the most important interviews you’re going to watch involving music, dance & free expression in the surveillance age you’ll see in a long time. Pussy Riot stands strong & unbowed, taunting Putin to re-arrest them, discussing the secret number of Pussy Rioters (is that a word yet?) including the ones still jailed, and explaining their trip to the USA. Besides raising awareness, they’re also meeting prison & human rights activists in an effort to learn more about how to fight these kinds of tactics. Props to them & as always, #freepussyriot. Tupac Has Probably Sparked The Brain That Will Change The World Already.

Tupac Has Probably Sparked The Brain That Will Change The World Already.

I mean, just saying. The number of inner city kids that were helped by his efforts to end gang violence, in addition to the millions of creatives that were influenced by his sound makes it seem likely. Just think, one day the president might be a Millennial who rocked backwards jeans because of Kriss Kross one month.

Midnight Music: Keeno’s Remix Of Love Letter By Champion

Keeno’s burst out of the gate here in 2014 with a new remix and it’s exactly what you need in your liquid D&B world. Keeno’s December feature on Hospital Records was featured here a while back. He’s back on Liquicity’s new Escapism compilation that’s out on the 17th. Man, a Liquicity & Hospital party would be dope.
