She may not have eyes of the bluest skies, but this cover of Sweet Child of Mine by Miche Braden, Scott Bradlee & the Postmodern Jukebox is fantastic. This Jazzy rendition of the bro-rock classic is a gorgeous reinterpretation of the hit and in my opinion, could seriously motivate me to hang out in bars where the original is played. Plus the woo girls dressed in furs & flapper clothes might be a little more fun and a little less cold this time of year.

Midnight Music: Katy B
To celebrate Katy B hitting #1 in the UK with her new album Little Red, I decided to put up one of the tunes from it, Crying for No Reason. This is everything a video should be, especially with the chops that Katy B has. I hope she gets her fair share of success and some exposure in the USA to boot, because her ability to blend vocals & beats is fantastic and needs to start being injected in the USA pop engine ASAP. It’s not easy to beat both Ellie Goulding & London Grammar, but there you have it folks. (via Mixmag)
Genre Snobbery Hilarity.
I’m not sure which is my favorite, Applecore, Post-Butternut Glitch, Jungle Con-Airtronica, You Look Like Jason Mraz-Tech or Your Face Looks Like A ThumbCore. If you’ve ever seen drunk people at a party (or me when I’m bored) you know how this goes down. Props to Nacho Punch.
Three “Royals” Covers You Need To See.
First up, the African Tribal Masquerade cover by Alex Boye’, which was done after purchasing paint & a wreath from Wal-Mart. A wonderful take on the original and something authentic from someone authentic. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.
Next, Puddles Pity Party. No that’s not the name of an episode of Adventure Time, it’s a 7ft tall clown with the voice of a tragic angel. He swung by Sleep No More last week and I couldn’t be happier that the guy is slowly becoming a name on the internets. The performance is perfect & the Pagliacci invocations are wonderful.
Finally, Pentatonix have whipped up a lovely acapella version for your listening pleasure. This perky little group deserves as much exposure as they can get, especially considering how awesome their sweet Daft Punk medley was a while ago. Check these 3 out, then forward them to your friends who think they’ve seen everything ๐
George Clinton Loves Star Trek.
Everyone’s favorite Prince of Funk sat down with FACTMag and talked about the life and times of being awesome. He spills about being a fan of Star Trek, Prince, Kendrick Lamar & what it’s like to be one of the most sampled artists of all time. Not a bad read if you’ve got a minute and interest in this kinda stuff.
Midnight Music: 2Cellos – Thunderstruck & Welcome To The Jungle – On Cello
Ok, I really like this. These two play the everliving fuck out of a couple of cellos, to the point where the bows get all messed up and ripped. Can that please be a thing? Intense classical instrument performance, with replacement bows halfway through the show when they inevitably break under the pressure of their sheer awesome? Also, the video below of them performing Welcome To The Jungle, would make the song totally acceptable to put on at a bar with a jukebox on the Lower East Side. Also, they have sweet black cellos in the second video.
David Byrne Covers Biz Markie
I mean really, what else is there to say? Le Poisson Rouge was served a delightful surprise last week, when the Talking Heads alum performed in support of “Artists’ Pay For Radio Play” last Tuesday night. Not only did he sit in with the band, they busted out the Biz Markie. Which, is always welcome on the mean streets of Gotham. (via Metafilter)
Crowdfunding Project of Note – Rameses B
Every once and a while I try and collect a few different crowd funding projects that deserve a signal boost, and this time around we’ve got an album that I can’t wait to hear.
Rameses B is one of my favorite artists, and ever since discovering him in 2012, I’ve been struck by his inventive, symphonic & modern compositions, with production chops to match. I can’t wait to hear what this album sounds like and I know the $$ will go to a great cause. He always drops tracks & mixes on Soundcloud, YouTube and Bandcamp for free so I’m happy to support. You should too.ย Check out his Soundcloud below as well to get a better idea of who you’re supporting and why.
God Works In Mysterious Ways (NSFW If Your Boss Knows ASL).
Meanwhile, the Jehovah’s Witnesses not only shun masturbation, they want to make sure you know they shun it. Even if you can’t hear. So they created a series of videos where Witnesses signed about how terrible masturbation is. And then someone found them and dubbed 50 Cent over it. This is hilarious, horribly dirty and if you know sign language, please light up the comments telling us what the hell they’re saying.
Midnight Mix! Luvstep V By Dirty South Joe & Flufftronix
I’m going to try and make an honest effort to push at least one mix out into the universe from my various repositories/basins of tunes, because sometimes people want a bit more than one track at a time. So, I’m happy to inaugurate this attempt with the 5th & newly expanded edition of the series I’ve been a fan of since its inception (if you’re a fan of the series you know why that’s a terrible joke). The combination of hip hop, movie vocals, chillstep, drum & bass, UK garage, lovetrap r&b and whatever else they want to throw in there makes for a wonderful & romantic two hours. Listen to it with someone you’re sweet on.
