I am going to keep banging on the Hospital Records drum until every single D&B fan in the United States knows of the astonishing work coming from the UK. For those of you paying attention, this is the second track I’m shoving into your faces from the “We Are 18” compilation released last year. Hospital Records not only throws some of the best parties anywhere in the world (that I hope to attend one day). The combination of smooth vocal work, extensive synth work & Etherwood’s liquid touch create a potent remix that eclipses even Camo & Krooked’s exceptional track. This tune is rocked daily for me, and I assume you will too.

Midnight Music: Max Frost – White Lies (Tune In Crew Remix) [Indie + Drum & Bass]
Tonight, I’m bringing you a remix of a Max Frost track entitled “White Lies.” The Tune In Crew are a funky duo of brothers from Strasbourg with a penchant for reworking tracks in surprisingly interesting ways. They’ve taken the indie tune and given it what could be liberally described as a drum & bass backbeat. The combination of the modified vocals, the bomping beat under the tune & their willingness to come to a complete stop at around 2.10 to emphasize just how much they’ve done to make the track their own make for a very fun four minutes. Put it into your ear holes and groove on it while you’re dancing around in your underwear getting ready for something.
Midnight Music: Seven Lions – Worlds Apart EP
Stop what you’re doing and listen. Ellie Goulding, Myon & Shane 54, Kerli & Tove Lo provide backup. This is massive epicstep with a dash of the fantastical. I’m so glad there’s more Seven Lions, and that he’s obviously been training for this moment. If you haven’t heard of this guy before, educate yourself. Right freaking now.
Midnight Music: TWD Industries – ARTifractal Decay [Chippy Synth]
A good friend will get infinite props from me forever because of his willingness to constrict his vast creative vision to the 3ds workspacewhen it comes to music production. The complexity & awareness brought to a track made by a heavily modified gameboy surpasses most Pro Tools/Ableton producers by a noticeable margin. Interestingly, it still reminds me of video games (namely some ill Mega Man cut scenes), even though it’s definitely not a melody ripped from a game. Enjoy it, and here comes Friday!
Midnight Music: The Prodigy – Out Of Space
A good friend reminded me that people don’t know/remember The Prodigy, so I’m going to be taking some time over the weeks and months to come, to right that particular wrong. The Prodigy’s effect on music in the 90’s could largely be described in the same way you’d describe the effects of a soccer riot in a quiet UK community. The obliteration of the rules by Liam after Fat Of The Land, Voodoo People & the other albums, remixes EPs & cuts to name, paved the way for EDM in the USA. If you don’t believe me, to put this in perspective, they headlined Coachella in 2002. If you didn’t even know Coachella was around in 2002, respect. Out Of Space is one of their earlier hits, that even most people familiar with the group haven’t heard. The severely old school rave track has a beat that cannot be ignored, and sample work that cannot be taken seriously.
Midnight Music: Acid Future – “Don’t Stop” [Disco House]
While some flail and flounder choosing between disco, house & acid flavors of dance music, Arveene & Misk are shining examples of what it sounds like when you get it right. This quick, fabulous, dance-all-night track has a tight little preview on YouTube (seen above). The GoPro was put to great use for the video, as the excitement of the biking matches the tune quite well. There’s some glamour in the melody & chord work that compliments the globe-trotting video footage. Enjoyable start to finish, so hit up the Beatport if you agree.
Midnight Music: Jon Lajoie – High as F#%k
Jon Lajoie has been a minor YouTube celebrity for as long as I can remember, and to celebrate this combo Passover/Easter/Bicycle Day/420/Hitler’s Birthday weekend, he’s earned the midnight music slot. This indie rock ballad referencing elevated states is smart & definitely not an unabashed thumbs up of cannabis culture. Just like when you forget to get drinks and snacks at the store, it’s not all good. Enjoy & happy 420 y’all, go to bed, you’ve been up since 420 AM.
Midnight Music: Metric – Blindness (Amtrac Remix) [Indie Bass]
I’ve gotta throw it up for Amtrac. I’ve been watching the Kentucky star’s climb for years and this track was where I discovered the inventive & bassy deliciousness that Amtrac creates. The lyrics remain a centerpiece, as you don’t want to fuck with Metric, but the remix is solid, giving you a dark, but gorgeous track to drive around at 3 AM with. This is definitely a dark tune but dark in an inviting kind of way. And it’s a Free Download, so put it into the face.
Midnight Music: Arkasia – Soldiers (Happy Birthday Charlie Chaplin!)
Tonight, for throwback Thursday, I present a duo of tracks using the pinnacle of sample work, taken from one of the first films to use actual audio. Mr. Chaplin was born today, and because of that, I’m picking two tracks showcasing “The Great Dictator” one of Charlie’s only speaking roles and one responsible for one of the best soliloquys in all of cinema. Above, Arkasia provides a stunning orchestral dubstep track that features the tune prominently & below, I’ve got one of my favorite MitiS tunes. Mr Suicide Sheep continues to provide YouTube portal goodness and allows me to use the tracks as a proof that you should celebrate the birth of one our most astonishing actors & comedians. Because if you can listen to these tracks without being touched, I’d check for a pulse. You may not be human anymore.
Midnight Music: Neon Trees – Sleep With A Friend (The Chainsmokers Remix) [Anthem House]
I was lucky enough to see The Chainsmokers when they played a warehouse party in Brooklyn about 8 months ago and yes, they absolutely killed it, so be jealous. Their star was moving along at a brisk pace until it went supernova with #SELFIE. Now, I’m hearing co-workers & friends quoting the lyrics while they complain about the culture. Love it or hate it, they moved the needle and started a conversation both about the idea of selfies and the people who take them. They dropped a new remix today and I have to say, you’re going to hear a lot of these guys this summer.
The tune has anthem written all over it and I’m going to count the minutes until I hear sets with multiple Chainsmokers tracks in them by DJs globally. The remix has a potent injection of energy while not saturating you with cheese. The lyrics & original vocal work are used appropriately and not stamped out by the big room sound like you’d expect. Expect to hear this a lot, and be glad it’s this and not the 86 inferior clones of this sound currently sitting in various charts on Beatport.(via EDMTunes)
