Fake Blood was put on my radar a few years ago and the quality has been through the roof. A combination dj, producer & graffiti artist, the all around badass has serious producing chops, giving edges to a lot of old-school rhythms & rhymes. This new track showed up a little over a week ago and it’s been on heavy rotation since. A combination of some soothing, jazzy vocals and some seriously almost-two-step style beats. It’s a fun little track to squeeze the last little bit of productivity out of the weekend, or to keep your ridiculous Sunday afterparty going π

Midnight Music: Soular Order’s Sweet Remix Of “Moments of Silk” By Jay Rodger
I have been a fan of Soular Order for (I actually get to say it!) years now, and the quality of their offerings never drops. Smooth chilled & gorgeous production values throughout tune after tune. I saw this Bandcamp EP featuring them, and as usual, their remix is superior to the original track. While the EP is nice and all, the Soular Order track really shines. Listen to it and check out the rest of Soular Order’s work here.
Midnight Music: Espoir by Darius
I think there’s a lot to like about this track, and I didn’t want it to fly under the radar because a huge label isn’t behind it. There’s a smooth & sexy, disco funky cool feeling to the tune, so mellow out with it and get some sleep when you can. (via Music Is Our Weapon)
Midnight Music: Tiesto’s Uplifting Remix of Buffalo Bill By Moxie Raia
If you look up sugary anthem trance in the dictionary, right there under Robert Miles & Darude, you’d see some of Tiesto’s most successful work. The Club Life podcast has showcased his slow shift into the middle space between trance, house & electro, but this anthem gets into your head and doesn’t leave. It’s big room pixie stick progressive at its best. So if you’re fretting work tomorrow, or you had to work today, crank it and let this take you away for a few more minutes.
Midnight Music Valentine’s Day Edition: All You Need Is Love by Timeflies
It’s Valentine’s Day if you’re reading this within 24hrs of it being published (hey, I can’t predict when this is going to get clicked on). So, in the spirit of both the good stuff that comes with people showing affection to each other because they’re reminded to in February and the jaw-dropping level that capital markets can sharpen and polish a product, I present ” All You Need Is Love.” This hilariously over-produced combination of “trance” and “hip hop” (I uses both terms extremely loosely here) inspires thoughts about the commercialization of love and how emotion has been co-opted for fun and profit. Though, there’s a pretty fun rhyme about Sochi. Enjoy! π
Midnight Music: Arkasia’s Epic Orchestral Dubstep Masterpiece “Pandemonium”
Arkasia is one of the better discoveries of my Winter 2012. There’s an astonishing quality when it comes to the sounds chosen & built for these tracks. It’s all too intense at a lot of moments in life, and I find sometimes, that can be captured competently by the right artist. It’s a rare quality that emerges when the producer knows their medium exceptionally well. Check out “The Awakening” below, for more. The orchestral but triumphant feel of the massive bass is a sound not often attempted and even more rarely achieved.
Midnight Music: The Glitch Mob’s New Music Video For Skytoucher, Single Off “Love Death Immortality”
The new Glitch Mob album was released today, and it’s the bees knees (totes magotes). Now that I’ve gotten the retro/poser language out of the way, I can discuss the totally original production that the trio of Ooah, Boreta & ediT have brought to the fore. Many have been a bit concerned about the amped up energy, BPM & electro-metal-style synths. These guys have been killing it since Drink The Sea debuted, forever altering my party & chillout playlists. Buy the album here and check out the previous music video from their single “Can’t Kill Us” below. Expect a full album review shortly. I just want to listen to it about fifty more times first.
Midnight Music: GQMF ft. Sarah Jane – Never Gonna Let You Fall (On Bombeatz Music)
I think I’m going to start making a habit of posting intensely positive music on Monday nights. Because Mondays. Sarah Jane sings the hell out of it over some synthy, dreamy electrochip (sure, what the hell, that’s a genre-now). The use of the VG effects would seem an amateur move by most, but it works incredibly well with the tone and attitude of the song. Sarah Jane adds some fantastic, poppy, floaty vocal work with some fun lyrics that will get you to smile, even while you’re complaining the tune might be a bit sweeter than others.
Midnight Music: Tank! Bootleg by JustDan
Tonight, I’m super proud to signal boost a pretty damn good offering from a sick rising DJ in Philly. This random Cowboy Bebop bootleg is a great freshman offering from the producer. The transition into synthy goodness at two minutes can only be described as tantalizing. I can’t wait to see where he goes with this stuff this year, and if you want more JustDan goodness, check the mix below. The blend of fidget, soul, R&B, jazzy hip hoppy goodness, house and a dash of disco should satisfy. Watch out for the Hey Arnold sample π
Midnight Mix: NO.SLEEP – Mix.01
If you’re looking for quality, chilled beats with a dash of ethereal and cloudy production values, I cannot recommend Odesza enough. The EP I listed is a great proof of their original work, but they’ve also started doing a great podcast featuring random hotness, linked above. Check em both out, and if you’re struggling for something to do on Valentine’s DayΒ Β hit up the show at Best Buy Theater where they’re opening for Emanicpator and you can hit up surprisingly cheap tickets here.
