Midnight Music: Gouryella by Gouryella (Ferry Corsten + Tiesto)

This week for the Throwback Thursday edition of Midnight Music, I’m delighted to present a track that’s started getting radio play again. Ferry Corsten has started putting it back into his sets after a huge request for it during his weekly mix show. It shot back up in the Beatport trance charts and I’ve started to hear it again. This collaboration between two of the hottest names in trance was an instant classic that you’ll love. Also, check out my favorite Gouryella track from after Tiesto had left the group, Ligaya, which is Filipino for “happiness.”

Midnight Music: 4 U by fwdslxsh

Ok, what genre is this song? Someone tell me, because I’m totally confused. We’ve found the sweet spot between chilled out trap beats & and almost R&B styled vocals. Just put it into your face, tell your friends, and get back to me!

Midnight Music: Keeno’s Remix Of Love Letter By Champion

Keeno’s burst out of the gate here in 2014 with a new remix and it’s exactly what you need in your liquid D&B world. Keeno’s December feature on Hospital Records was featured here a while back. He’s back on Liquicity’s new Escapism compilation that’s out on the 17th. Man, a Liquicity & Hospital party would be dope.

Midnight Music: 8-Bit Renditions – Classic Rock Redone in Chip

Someone over at Metafilter shouted out this new YouTube Channel and its various hep renditions of classic rock & roll, alt rock & whatever else they feel like. A serious chiptune movement exists, that I’ve discussed often on the blerg. I believe tunes like this can remind others that chip is a legit genre and there’s a lot of work that needs to be done in that space to make EDM stronger as a whole. Can’t wait to see who does it and pushes the genre into the big room for the first time. (via Metafilter)

Midnight Music: Audien’s Stellar Remix of “Treasure” By Bruno Mars

In celebration of the Sport Bowl that occurred today, I’m glad to say that Audien absolutely tears it up when it comes to remixing “Treasure,” one of the songs Bruno Mars performed this evening. The triumphant & heavy electro-house pushes the energy & strikes the perfectly right tone. Hit it up and hit up the comments with the first DJ you want to see perform at the Super Bowl.

Midnight Music: Walk The Edge by Alex M.O.R.PH.

This is one of my & Armin Van Buuren’s favorite Trance tracks of all time. I’m not going to mince words but to say that it’s quality from the beginning to the end and really captures what I think modern trance is capable of, while maintaining a reverence for the classic sound. It’s from 2008, so enjoy the throwback & get at Alex M.O.R.P.H. for a LOT more.

Midnight Music: ViLLAGE’s Soulful Remix of Lullabies by Adventure Club ft. Luna

ViLLAGE was one of a smattering of artists that have gotten me through a very tough time. This track & the Takeover EP listed below have this tragic but beautiful feel to them. Lullabies was one of the gems that came out of the collaboration between Adventure Club & Yuna. If you haven’t heard Gold by the two of them, change that.

The muffled nature of the vocal samples implies that night when you saw your ex after long enough. Or, you thought it had been long enough. Get at both the track & the EP, and show Origami Sound, ViLLAGE’s bleeding-edge label, some love as well.

Midnight Music: T-Mass Hits A Home Run Remixing Adventure Club!

If you look up “Producers that need to get signed with OWSLA” in the dictionary, you’ll find T-Mass. Top Notch Production? Check. Agile Social Media Sense? Check. Ability to produce in like 4 different genres? Check-a-mundo. This remix of Wonder by Adventure Club is a fantastic demonstration of what this guy is capable of. Then hit up his Soundcloud and put some more bass into your face.

Midnight Music: DJ Erb’s Sweet Daft Punk Mashup With Tupac & David Bowie!

Tonight, I’ve got a fun little mashup from a DJ I’ve been listening to since I was in college. DJ Erb’s stupendous talent at mixing classic/modern hip hop with funk, classical & even Ohio Buckeye fight songs definitely needs a lot more exposure and I’m glad to signal boost for the guy who thought mixing Hans Zimmer & Lil Jon was a good idea. Because, as he proves below, it totally is. Get at both tracks and see what I’m talking about.

Midnight Music (Mix!): Footwork Jungle Presents Strange Future

To round out your weekend, I’ve got more than 45min of some glorious jungle’y footwork for you. Footwork is a Chigago-spawned genre that has in turn, spawned an entirely new dance craze in the Windy City. Add some delicious old-school jungle to the sound, and there’s a lot of UK + Chicago fast/slow action going on here. The mix is definitely good for both headphones and for jumping around, in case you’ve got a Sunday night Dance Party going down. I got this from one of my super awesome DJ friends, TygerLily, who if you haven’t, you need to check out. She’s wonderful and I have all of the good feelings for her and her amazing taste. Do it up here & see y’all in a few hours 😀
