Midnight Mix! Luvstep V By Dirty South Joe & Flufftronix

I’m going to try and make an honest effort to push at least one mix out into the universe from my various repositories/basins of tunes, because sometimes people want a bit more than one track at a time. So, I’m happy to inaugurate this attempt with the 5th & newly expanded edition of the series I’ve been a fan of since its inception (if you’re a fan of the series you know why that’s a terrible joke). The combination of hip hop, movie vocals, chillstep, drum & bass, UK garage, lovetrap r&b and whatever else they want to throw in there makes for a wonderful & romantic two hours. Listen to it with someone you’re sweet on.

Waiting All Night By Rudimental – British Single @ 2014 Brit Awards!

My absolute favorite release of last year “Waiting All Night” was named the Best Single in London and I really could not be happier. The tune is triumphant, and a sound that I hope achieves radio play because it’s just so damn good. The combination of massive trumpet, massive vocals from the 19 year old divine vocalist Ella Eyre & seriously massive drum & bass makes for a proper track, to use the local lingo. Get at the video and hit up Rudimental on Twitter & Facebook. Tell the amazing trumpet player Mark Crown that Terry Gotham sent ya.

Midnight Music: Keeno’s Remix Of Love Letter By Champion

Keeno’s burst out of the gate here in 2014 with a new remix and it’s exactly what you need in your liquid D&B world. Keeno’s December feature on Hospital Records was featured here a while back. He’s back on Liquicity’s new Escapism compilation that’s out on the 17th. Man, a Liquicity & Hospital party would be dope.

Midnight Music: “My Year In The Rain” by Strife II

Strife II is one of my absolute favorite liquid Drum & Bass producers in the UK and the world over actually. There’s a quiet beauty to his symphonic, intensely well produced tracks. I can’t wait for someone at Hospital Records to stumble upon this sound and shove him into a room with Etherwood, Camo & Krooked and High Contrast. The drum & bass world will thank you Tony, make it happen.

Midnight Music: Free New Hotness From MitiS

MitiS has been blogged about here repeatedly, and I hope continues to maintain the level of quality that earns me geeking out over him as hard as I do. The melodic, lush, chill, but still driving Drum & Bass that we all crave. I’d say more, but it’s a free download & MitiS, so put it into your face if you’re awake 😀

If You Don’t Know Who MrSuicideSheep Is, Change That. Today.

If You Don't Know Who MrSuicideSheep Is, Change That. Today.

MrSuicideSheep is the best part of YouTube. One of the purely music-based channels, track after track shows up and it is always quality. Whether it’s electro, drum & bass, dubstep, ambient/chillout, experimental, indie rock and even progressive house, it’s good. The gorgeous art used in backgrounds adds to the presentation as well. Really cool person, with a great story & they deserve all the success. Mixes get added from time to time, like the chill-out one I’ve linked below. Glide into your Friday. And show that channel some love.

Hometown Fire: whiteowljaguar

I’ve been a fan of whiteowljaguar for the last 6 months, and thankfully, they’ve kept pushing & rising, blazing a trail through the NYC burner & underground community as fast as their signature accessory, the Disco Fist can illuminate a path through the dance floor. There is a deep understanding of tech, minimal, house and bass that ushers forth from the duo that cannot be denied. I first discovered their sound at TechNoir several months back and I’ve tried to get out to support as often as my clusterfuck schedule allows. There’s a lot of talent here and check out what they did for Tech Noir if you don’t believe me. The yin & yang of the power couple/DJ duo can’t be ignored, as they snatch control of the decks away from each other mid-set, chasing some amazing groove down the aural rabbit hole it’s scampering into.

Double Mix of the Week: Hospital Records Podcast 216 ft. Keeno & Maduk’s

For your holiday week, whether it’s Christmas, Festivus, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day (or something I missed that I’ll probably get angry emails for not mentioning), celebrate with a two pack of liquid drum & bass mixes straight from the internets to your sound holes. There’s no real in-app playlist, but it’s also a massive free download, so grab the mix here. The mix features several new tracks from Keeno & the first new tune by London Elektricity in THREE YEARS. Recognize & get down.

Maduk has been on my radar for most of 2013, and the competence they brought to mixing this shows why. There’s a serious amount of liquid d&b independent of hospital records as well. It’s a solid review of the tunes of the year, with a few of the highlights coming from Hybrid Minds, Feint, Metrik, Stan SB & Rameses B. If you don’t know who any of those artists are, and you’re into drum & bass, you’ve got some homework to do. Can’t wait to see what 2014 brings for the boom-tch.

Just in case you needed a few more D&B artists/producers/pioneers in your universe, Do Androids Dance put out a fun little slide-show about some luminaries in the field that you should probably know about. A quick & dirty list that should give you some new listening choices on this sunny Sunday afternoon.

Mix of the Week NYC – Good Times by JustDan (Studio Mix)

I could not be happier to post this mix. This was done by an exceptionally good friend of mine who is finally getting the exposure he deserves. He prepped this mix originally for a party that was thrown in late Feb. somewhere in Brooklyn, and it was definitely a whole boatload of Good Times.

The set is a full hour of classic liquid drum & bass, mixed expertly. Dan has some of the best track choices around and the set reflects both an ambitiousness and a competence that we don’t see much very often. It flows from track to track, pulling through a stupid number of tracks by the time the hour is up. The list includes the who’s who of liquid D&B, from old stalwarts like Danny Byrd, London Elektricity & Deekline to new kids on the street like Moti, Camo & Krooked and nu:tone. Put it into yo face. You’ll thank me.
