I really do have to give it up to Liquicity. They are one of the only places besides Hospital Records on the internet to get consistently dope beats of the liquid variety. I had no idea that there was a liquid DJ in Boston! This means I’m looking into booking things toute suite. This kind of track is exactly the sound that the scene needs. The cool intensity of the back beat rumbling along with the potent, but not abrasive low end is damn near perfect. The vocals put some sexy frosting on the top of the tune, and you’ve got a neat 6:41 of fun. BoxPlot you say?! I’m into it. I love the feeling when you find a new artist and have an entire new Soundcloud to go through. Is that the equivalent of binge Netflixing?

Midnight Music: Rameses B ft. Veela – Mountains [Soaring Drum & Bass]
Rameses B is back on Monstercat and this track had me tore up. It’s kind of impressive when a tune can reduce you to a blubbering mess on a gray rainy Monday afternoon. The unbeatable formula of perfect builds, stupdendously positioned vocals, a tremendous back beat & a sample that comes out of nowhere wins again, as Rameses B bursts out of the gate for 2015. If this is any indication of the year that this guy is going to have, my ears are going to love 2015. This track is an immediate listen, even if it’s chock full of feels and may make things bubble inside you that you weren’t expecting. No, that’s not gas. You’re just being taken away to the world of liquid d&b made by one of the best. Veela doesn’t disappoint so put the track in your face and tell yo friends. This one is going places, you heard it here first.
Midnight Music: Submotion Orchestra – All Yours (S.P.Y Remix) [Drum & Bass]
This is the kind of remix we need to see more of. Submotion Orchestra does some stunning work that you need to check out, right after you listen to this song of course. S.P.Y. is another one of the drum & bass knights at the round table that is Hospital Records. He’s got this preternatural sense of how to build the low end while keeping you grooving with his mastery of the vocal remix. A bustling track, this kind of sound is what make the genre one of my favorite. Get at this guy and don’t forget, Hospitality is coming to this side of the planet!
Daft Punk + Guitars = Liberal Amounts Of Win.
Welp, this is kind of wonderful. If you wanted to know what Get Lucky would sound like if Steve Vai or Kurt Cobain played it, here you go. This 3 min vid gets you everything you need in your afteroon, if of course, the only things you need are quality guitar work & Daft Punk’s later work. Andre Antunes is a burgeoning artist that might deserve a second look from y’all. The video should help you skid into the 5 o’clock whistle on your Monday if you’ve not been able to take snow day #2 for 2015.(via Stoney Roads)
Music I’d Forgotten About: Space Monkey [UK Psytrance]
Ah Space Monkey. It had drifted out of my mind for a while, as psy-trance isn’t something we get a whole lot of these days in the Tri-state area. Psycheground & others are still holding it down, but the days of the all night forest raves several times a summer are gone, never to return. I’d needed to explain what this kind of thing sounded like, so I decided to send this to a friend. This, is some of the best UK psychedelic trance you can find ladies and gentlemen. 3min in, we get the greatest sample in the history of trance. JFK’s inauguration speech slammed into ridiculous trance music, and as you can hear, it totally works. Throw this on for your friends who think they know how to rage. I like it so much there’s some extra from him for you below. Enjoy!
Midnight Music: BT – Somnambulist (Mark Norman Remix)
This one took me surprise, during a friend’s live set. This scintillating remix of BT’s Somnambulist is quite good. BT’s a tough artist to remix as he’s one of the best composers in the industry, hands down. When someone can pull this kind of feeling into a BT tune, I couldn’t be more happy about it. This kind of build isn’t something we hear at trance shows anymore. Any trance track that makes you wait 4min 30sec to give you what you want is my kind of trance. It’s a dope build, a better break, and it’s getting harder and harder to find this kind of stuff. As the track is from 2011, it’s retro enough. Here’s to hoping this kind of sound comes back shortly, as I know that many of us have been waiting for quite some time.
Midnight Music: Lemaitre – All I Need (Prince Fox Remix) ft. Chuck Inglish
Prince Fox has done some amazing work, and his Webster Hall set last weekend was no exception. This kid is gonna make waves in 2015, as this remix shows. A smooth, synth-y reworking of Lemaitre’s “All I Need” is in order, to frame how dope he can be. This kind of shimmering indie bass work is exactly what your week needs. Chuck Inglish adds some buttery flow to the remix, so there’s enough here for everyone. There’s not too much to say about this anymore than “new remix” “is dope” and “get indie bass in your ear holes.” Prince Fox knows what he’s doing, and if you were there early on Saturday night, you saw how good he could be.
Midnight Music: Archive – End Of Our Days [Indietronica]
Hat tip to The Joy of Violent Movement for becoming my go-to source for indie, alt rock, singer-songwriter, hip hop & all things that you could go hipster over. Tonight, I’ve got some dopeness from Archive, a South London group that gets it right. This group does some great work, especially balancing the organic & synthetic aspects of their production. The beats that come in halfway through the track add dimensions that I was not expecting. It’s an echoic fusion that gives me hope for the future. This is the kind of sound I keep coming back to, putting the best of both out there, for all to see. I am already terribly sad I won’t be able to catch them as they’re still only touring in the UK, but wait for them to go London Grammar on the pop world, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Beastie Boys ft. Nas – Too Many Rappers
I’m about a week late on this, but if you’ve not seen it, this is golden. Unearthed Beatie Boys + Nas music video. Does what it says on the tin. No, seriously, how else could I describe this? Put it into your face.
Midnight Music: Tycoos feat. Igor Surazakov – Back To The Past (Emotional Mix) [Trance]
I’m not sure how to describe this appropriately. Is, there a word for both gorgeous & “causes weeping” together? It ends far too soon, but it straddles the line between hard trance & dream trance in a way I’ve not heard in years. These two guys out of Russia did a fantastic job on this track, and it needs to be picked up by ASOT or FSOE immediately. I’m hoping tracks like these push the needle back towards this style of trance, as opposed to the nu trance, trouse & trance 2.0 that is filtering through. This is a deeply soothing sound, hypnotic, and quite pure trance sounding. This is what a lot of the trance classics people have been waiting for, and the break is super fulfilling.
