Since I yammered about Kove a little while ago, I’m delighted to say that the track has been picked up, and EDM.com brings us a reworking of the tune that shimmers with quality. The deep, techy, but still perky envisioning of the original D&B is music to my ears. There’s the necessary competent build with some slicing & dicing of the vocals in just the way your rooftop party deep house should sound. This has some potential to get pushed into some sets, especially with the break into super old school styles halfway in. The sound is very now. While I feel like a catastrophic douche for writing that, I think it’s true in a lot of ways. The retro feel given some modern bounce, in addition to the proper usage of vocals pushing into a deeper, less anthem-y sound. Listen and you tell me if I’m right? (via EDM.com)
Michael Jackson Sure Could Move.
Tumblr is wonderful. Also Moonwalking from black to white must have taken forever to edit together. Props. (by Divinity In Motion via Higgins)
Midnight Music: The Beatles – Blackbird
For Throwback Thursday, I wanted to bring it all the way back to 1968. There’s a lot of perfection in this tune. If you’ve never heard of it, I’m frankly astonished, but I can’t ever judge anyone’s blindspots. The chords and the build are deceptively spot on. The imagery has been sliced and diced a thousand different ways, so I won’t comment on what the words mean. I’ll leave that to you. I used to listen to this and many other Beatles songs with my Dad. What songs do you still listen to that your parents passed to you?
Zachary Levi, Mashable Video & Bert (Yes, That One) Remind You To Go Outside.
This is wonderful. Grover, Kal Penn, Bert, and Zachary Levi come together to get your ass out of the house. “Subscriptions to those clouds are free” is one of the best lines I’ve heard in a bit. While it took Pigeons to get Bert out of his house, now that it’s finally nice in the city, go out. I don’t know, go check Instagram on the Highline or something.
David Bowie Gets Into Inspiration, Ziggy Stardust (PBS Digital Studios)
Blank on Blank continues to be one of the best aspects of PBS Digital Studios on Youtube. Master Bowie talks about the difficulty in writing for himself, but the ease with which he can write for a persona he creates. It’s kind of stunning how spot on he is, but for any fan of Bowie, his genius and consistency, ability to let things go when they need to, and continued evolution over the years come as no surprise. Enjoy the video and get to work on your own Ziggy.

Gotta give it up for Higgins who continues to kill it on Tumblr. Original artwork by Fauna 93 off DeviantArt. Go get into both of their social medias. You’ll thank me.
Blurred Lines Was Totally Not The 2013 Song Of The Summer.
The Boston Globe dropped an interesting post on Friday. A list of the last 100 years of summer anthems. That’s right, all the way back to 1915. Just in case you wanted to know what the song of the summer was during WWI, the Great Depression, or Vietnam. Holy crap, Baby Got Back was the 1992 song of the summer? Those must have been weird day parties. We all know what the song of the summer was last year, stop playing.
Mix Of The Weekend: Keeno, Etherwood, Ash, Anile, Lung & Joe Syntax Kill It [Drum & Bass] (Free Download!)
Med School Music, sister label to Hospital Records, has tossed into the ring what I believe is the future of event marketing. Ahead of a May 23rd show they pushed out a 30min mix with the artists performing at the show picking their favorite D&B tracks and pushing it out as a free DL. The 30min is classic Med School, with tracks by Keeno & Unquote, Minotaur & others that you will definitely get down to. With so many mixers on this, it’s hard to pick a high point. So put it into your face. Also, party promoters, GET YOUR DJS TO DO THIS. This is the best way to hype a party I’ve ever seen. I’ll just be crying quietly that I didn’t live in the UK and missed another party with music like this, don’t mind me.
EP Of The Week: Voyager By Minnesota [Dream Bass] Free Download!
One of my first review gigs was Minnesota at Brooklyn Bowl (check it here if you like text), so I’ve been watching his ascent through the ranks of selectros for years now with much delight. Not only did he kill it opening up for Shpongle (When you’re awesome, you find yourself at Red Rocks Ampitheater in Colorado), but he’s obliterating Webster Hall with Koan Sound on May 23rd. The new EP is lush & gorgeous, like a forest made of bass. Voyager, Golden Era & Sail Away are personal favorites. They’re excellent examples of what can be done with a good understanding of what new bass music should sound like, especially when you’re trying to showcase a unique sound and ensure you don’t get pigeonholed into a genre. Put all 6 tracks in your face and hit up the comments with your favorite. It’s out & it’s Free on his Facebook page. Hit that up, because that’s a no-bullshit sextet of quality tracks into your face. What else do you want?
