I think there’s a lot to like about this track, and I didn’t want it to fly under the radar because a huge label isn’t behind it. There’s a smooth & sexy, disco funky cool feeling to the tune, so mellow out with it and get some sleep when you can. (via Music Is Our Weapon)
Earworm Of The Month: Dark Star by Jaymes Young
I’ve been listening to this song incessantly & obsessively. Been listening to it since last year, for the specific reason that it’s one of the finest blends of soulful, potent indie vocals and future bass that really needs to get some production eyes on it. I’m not really sure how else to describe my love of the song but that if it was something I had in high school, I’d listen to it on my cd player daily. The music video is new, and the soundcloud link is below if you want to add it to playlists. There’s some powerful artistry at work here and I can’t wait for Mr. Young to get into a wider audience because this tune has movie soundtrack/epic pop hit written all over it.
In Miley Cyrus Land, The “Monica Lewinsky” Is A Dance Move.
Miley Cyrus goes down on a faux Clinton, wears trees on her onesie and is single-handedly keeping the furry mascot industry in business here. Just in case you weren’t sure what would happen when she went on tour, or your mind deliberately repressed the thoughts you had surrounding it, it’s happening, and boy is it weird. Midnight Music: Tiesto’s Uplifting Remix of Buffalo Bill By Moxie Raia
If you look up sugary anthem trance in the dictionary, right there under Robert Miles & Darude, you’d see some of Tiesto’s most successful work. The Club Life podcast has showcased his slow shift into the middle space between trance, house & electro, but this anthem gets into your head and doesn’t leave. It’s big room pixie stick progressive at its best. So if you’re fretting work tomorrow, or you had to work today, crank it and let this take you away for a few more minutes.

The History Of Caucasian Dance. Lollerskates.
This is kind of amazing & surprisingly well choreographed/performed. Remind me to do the Shopping Cart more often.
Hilariously Terrible Hard Copy Segment Involving A Dead Trent Reznor, A Retired Cop & The FBI in 1991.
The year is 1991 and Hard Copy’s boner for cops is on display. NIN was a year old and the cops just couldn’t understand why there was video of his dead body that landed in a corn field in Michigan. This is amazing & why the hell was that artistic dramatization paid for? (via Metafilter)
Midnight Music Valentine’s Day Edition: All You Need Is Love by Timeflies
It’s Valentine’s Day if you’re reading this within 24hrs of it being published (hey, I can’t predict when this is going to get clicked on). So, in the spirit of both the good stuff that comes with people showing affection to each other because they’re reminded to in February and the jaw-dropping level that capital markets can sharpen and polish a product, I present ” All You Need Is Love.” This hilariously over-produced combination of “trance” and “hip hop” (I uses both terms extremely loosely here) inspires thoughts about the commercialization of love and how emotion has been co-opted for fun and profit. Though, there’s a pretty fun rhyme about Sochi. Enjoy! 😉

Midnight Music: Arkasia’s Epic Orchestral Dubstep Masterpiece “Pandemonium”
Arkasia is one of the better discoveries of my Winter 2012. There’s an astonishing quality when it comes to the sounds chosen & built for these tracks. It’s all too intense at a lot of moments in life, and I find sometimes, that can be captured competently by the right artist. It’s a rare quality that emerges when the producer knows their medium exceptionally well. Check out “The Awakening” below, for more. The orchestral but triumphant feel of the massive bass is a sound not often attempted and even more rarely achieved.
