So, Mexican Supermarkets Have High Energy Dancing Cow Mascots

So, this was the first video I saw on this that pulled me in. How the hell do you keep this level of energy up? But wait, it gets better.
This Alpura mascot seems to be better than any Football mascot or half of the people that I see out at the club. But just in case you thought one of these things was enough, there’s more. Apparently this is a team between the mascot and and announcer, as this video proves. But, apparently, this is a national thing, as there’s footage of dozens of these mascots in one place rocking out to this stuff.
You’re welcome. Your Tuesday has nothing on la vache qui danse.

Midnight Music: The Prodigy – Nasty [Violent Big Beat]

The Prodigy - The Day is the Enemy

It’s here! The first single on the new Prodigy album is here! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! They’re the best at what they do and they’re back. This punchy sound is exactly where it needs to be, while also upending some social order goodness lampooning the annual fox hunt thing the gentry in the UK have every year. This is them reminding the world they’re here, this is how to sound like that, and they can do it without truckloads of hardware. While some people have expressed being underwhelmed, this is is how they play. Any fan of The Prodigy know that their first release off of an album is usually a poppier, less aggressive choice. After Smack My Bitch Up became a nation-wide controversy, I’d imagine they may want to generate some furor, without being called terrorists. It’s a fine line when it comes to generating outrage vs. starting to be clamped down on, and The Prodigy have walked that line better than anyone. I can’t wait to hear the rest of this stuff, and if you grab the pre-order, you get the single tomorrow.

Midnight Music: Danny Stubbs ft. Issa – Voices In The Dark (Remix By Scott Bond)

Danny Stubbs ft. Issa - Voices In The Dark

I had to break up the Drum & Bass streak when I found this in my inbox. Scott Bond continues his hotstreak, pushing out a hard remix of Voices In The Dark, off of the REBOOTED label. This is my kind of trance, with Armin agreeing, dropping it on ASOT690.

The remix pack is delightful, with some quality work being done by Magnus. This smoother re-working of Danny Stubb’s fantastic original work got some love the next week on ASOT. This dreamier, softer, but still intense remix has a gorgeous build around 1:40, and it’s those types of chords I really think need to come back into trance. It’s a sound that flirts with psy, and will keep everyone on their feet.

The package, with the original & 4 remixes drops on Jan 19th, so rock it when it shows up on Beatport eh? It’s going to be a big one in trance sets for 2015, so don’t sleep on it. Especially these two remixes.

Midnight Music: Urbandawn – Words To Say [Drum & Bass]

To keep the week of amazing soulful drum & bass going, Urbandawn pushed out this relaxed, piano-driven tune all the way back in March 2014, but since it’s new to me, you get it now. This is definitely a track I want to hear on positional sound systems. This producer out of Sao Paulo is going to be huge, just you wait and see. He was signed to Hospitality and has put out tracks for Med School before, but this one is really a stand-out. I think this kind of sound should be played in public spaces or in areas where people travel through. I think the use of this kind of chilled vibe for the benefit of all could like, decrease travel stress and aggressive behavior. I know it’s crazy sounding, but tell me you’re not breathing just a touch more slowly after that track. Weird right? 😀

Two Daft Punk Remixes Worthy Of The Name.

It’s rare that I find a Daft Punk remix that stands. Daft Punk really does amazing work, so it’s really hard to remix their tracks and come up with anything better than the original. In addition to that, their rabid fan-base will obliterate any sub-par or disrespectful attempts. However, I have been lucky enough to stumble across a couple of remixes that even I cannot deny are legit. Interestingly, they’re both remixes of Voyager, one of the most underrated tracks not only on Discovery but of their entire library of work (in my opinion /hipster).

The first, a remix by someone only known as Revolte, starts out like you think it will disappoint you, but then adds enough crunchy electro, confident organic synth work & massively Daft-sounding auto-tuning to earn the full listen. I have no idea where to find anything else by this artist, so all I can do is enjoy the interludes and hope they yell at me through the internet.

Thankfully, I was able to track down the artist behind the second remix. Domenico Torti’s Wild Style edit features the best beat-remixing work I’ve heard from anyone who has attempted to use Daft Punk source material. Period. This is incredible, and borders on DMC championship level turntablism. The remix lets you breathe, pulling you back into familiar territory, then plays with you for the rest of the time. It’s a hip, upbeat, sophisticated remix that I expect to see attractive people drinking & wearing expensive things dancing to. In that “this is too well tailored, I really not trying to move” way. Dope vibe, so kudos, to both of our remixers, and will the first one please show themselves so I can thank you for being dope?

DMX Sings Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer & Gets Into It.

So, some genius that needs a raise at Power 105.1 (FM radio station here in NYC for all the out-of-towners), because they got DMX to sing Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. You would think he’d shy away from it, but he dives, DIVES in. Provides his own drum track and everything. Because if there was one thing you needed this holiday season, it was hearing DMX catch-phrases over carols. It is. Even if you think you don’t need it, you totally need it. Play it unnervingly loud for your relatives. (via The Joy of Violent Movement)

Cole Rolland Plays Dubstep On Guitar. Someone Tell The Pegboard Nerds.

Firstly, dope 80’s style electric guitar work definitely needs to come back. And if this kid is the one to do it, so much the better. Cole Rolland takes the electrostep remix of Krewella’s Alive by Pegboard Nerds and drops it live, on his axe. This is a massive accomplishment & further reinforces my hypothesis that dubstep is the synthetic equivalent of a whammy bar, especially when he plays dubstep…largely with his whammy bar. I am a huge fan of the technical skill involved in this cover, and would love to see more guitar YouTube people get into this kind of cross over work. Shit, Infected Mushroom sounded dope with a live guitarist. What are you doing to cross boundaries while expressing yourself on Monday huh? 😀

Childish Gambino Freestyle On HOT97. Does What It Says On The Tin.

So, I’ve always had a bunch of love for HOT97. Growing up they were the source, before The Source was even a source. They grabbed Childish Gambino and dropped a relaxed beat on him in the studio back in September. I had no idea until one of the bravest men I’ve ever met tipped me off to this. The flow is impeccable, irregular and intense. If you don’t know why I keep going on about this guy, watch him here, totally unprompted. It’s better than most of what we’re passing off as hip hop these days I think you will agree. Anyway, if this peaks your interest, get at Gambino here, here & here.

Midnight Music: Shogun – Skyfire [Trance]

For Throwback Thursday, we’re not going very far. If you listened to dance music in 2011, this track was in your head whether you liked it or not. I, loved it. This massive anthem was the perfect way to give your crowd a scintillating breather during a set, while building back into a trance drop of startling proportions. It was played everywhere, and I recently remembered the drop during one of Shogun‘s crazy sets that year, after it had been played by Armin & dozens of other DJs. That moment of “man, that is a crazy good progression” & frisson inducing chords, that was shared by thousands across the world.

Bounce ft. Timothy Delaghetto Will Get You Through Monday

This what happens when boys are left alone. If you ever wanted to see what happens when two friends don’t let a joke die, this is it. The dulcet tones of DJ Ele waft along with these two, gyrating and generally being dopey for what must have been way too long when it came to filming it on the street. There’s a quiet authenticity here without pretension that I’m really into. If you were taking anything seriously, you won’t after watching this. Abjo’s remix comes in for support, and plays you out. 4min 19 sec to keep you going.
