I’mobsessed with how future this track is. There’s so much to like about UV boi, and it’s on display here (By the way, the Arabic says ultraviolet.). From the perfect collaboration to the perfect future trap sounds, to the cell phone typing on the beat the whole time, this is the new hotness. The Brasstracks adding their emerging horn jams to the windswept vocals by Fionn Richards and UV boi takes it from there. He takes it and runs with it. There’s a neo-spiritual feel to this, while it also identifies as footwork and future bass. This is why I love the stuff coming out of Down Under. It’s so free from corporate dumb-assery, it takes so many more risks. C’mon, can you imagine anyone but The Chainsmokers adding texting sounds to a track? And then adding them to a future jazz track? I don’t think so. UV Boi makes it happen and we’re all better for it.

Flume is back! Stop what you’re doing and listen to this song/watch this video. The music video is hauntingly effective at showcasing the increasingly complex sound Flume is known for the world over. There’s a lot of what looks like drone footage, juxtaposed with Flume moving along the way the heads in DBZ float around. There’s a reverence for the performance hall, specifically the Sydney Opera House in this. It matches the echoic, soulful future vibe of the track perfectly. Andrew Wyatt’s impressive chops support the “almost breaks it’s so future” provided by Flume in a way that is amazing.

And then 3:15 happens and he blows us and that away. The transition into the drip drop synth work is shocking and reminds us that he’s never to be underestimated or even anticipated. The movements seem to organically shift as the video effects person Flume got clearly knew what they were doing. It’s silky smooth, contrasted with the jutting nature of the synth. Absolutely magnificent. But, what did you expect. It’s Flume. If you do one thing this summer, pay money to see Flume. I know you won’t be disappointed.

Major Lazer x DJ Snake ft. MO - Lean On (Kamil Remix)Kamil from Azerbaijan continues to earn my respect from thousands of miles away. His jovial, hopeful outlook has given him success in remixing a lot of tracks where others fail. I’m now going to specifically wait for Kamil remixes when new dope anthems get dropped, because I know that there’s going to be some fun, funky remix coming. Something not too serious, that wears colors other than black & you can dance to. This is a strong competitor for the best DJ Snake mix I’ve ever heard, so if diplo, Major Lazer, DJ Snake or Mo want to discover this guy and get him on a Mad Decent tour that would be excellent. Get at the rest of his tracks, especially the stupendous Disclosure remix.

Jaymes Young is the He Man to Phoebe Ryan’s She-Ra in the Eternia that is Indie Soundcloud. Now that we’ve put that exceptionally tortured metaphor behind us, this track is exquisite. Phoebe Ryan joins Jaymes for one of the best duets since that summer we were all singing about “now you’re just somebody that I used to know.” This skill when it comes to lyrical genius and tonal perfection from both singers is second to none, and I really do believe both of these artist need solo pop careers. Each has been featured on this site before, Jaymes earning an Earworm of the Month tip, with Phoebe being my Valentine’s Day release. The mastering is second to none as usual, so I really hope this goes le viral.

Ayesha Adamo – Midnight Elite (Harder Remix)

You don’t hear this kind of sound too often outside of Who’s Afraid Of 138 & BlkMarket Membership events. This ethereal, almost psychedelic remix of Ayesha Adamo‘s new single Midnight Elite. This is a totally indie, underground producer here in Brooklyn who spent some time in China before triumphantly returning. I’ve had the privilege of booking her to perform a couple of times where she’s repeatedly a crowd favorite. You know you’ve made the right decision when dozens of people ask for her booking information 15min into the set. She managed to tape this video herself, showing that in today’s economy, you have to wear a thousand different hats. Getting back to the tune, the production value is solid, as is the heavy, drawn out remix ambiance. If you’re into it, check out the whole remix package on Beatport. And, because she’s so dope, here’s a DJ mix she did for Winter Music Conference a couple of months back, giving you another facet of her competence. Enjoy!

TACHES - Prints Of Whales (ft. PB Kaya)I don’t post a lot of Deep House on this blog. It’s not because I dislike the genre, as you’ll see me at deep & tech house parties pretty much weekly in Gotham. When it comes to house, I prefer sets & I don’t much keep up with individual tracks. I had to make an exception when I came across this. TÂCHES creates a soothing, spacey house track that needs to be purchased by every DJ friend of mine in the city. The deep, modern vibe is exactly what I needed to keep chugging through this week and if you need a pick me up, I know this will help.  If I don’t hear this at least once in the next month at Verboten, I’m going to be seriously disappointed. Cazzette vs. Tomyayasu Hotei – Battle Without Honor Or HumanityI’m really glad Cazzette has been stepping up in 2015. There’s a lot of great work they’ve done (hit their Soundcloud if this is news), but between the touring, shows & the salvo of sweet bootlegs, they’re skyrocketing. This stupendous electro house remix of one of the most iconic pieces of music from Kill Bill is everything you need to keep slashing through the week. There’s a retro, almost acid vibe on the house, that is totally in line with the original track by the incomparable Tomoyasu Hotei. It’s got Cazzette’s usual sky high level of production so no worries, and it’s even got a drop of Discovery-era Daft Punk in it. I expect great things from these folks & I know they won’t disappoint. Jack U - To U (Lodent Remix)The massive Jack U album continues to spawn dope remixes! This time, we’ve got Lodent knocking it out of the park. A rising bass producer from Chicago kills it on this. The glittering anthem vibe meshes with merciless trap beats. A heavy but almost euphoric mix down allows the original track featuring AlunaGeorge a chance to soar, showcasing this Lodent fella. Quite good work actually, especially for someone new on the scene. I usually can’t stand heavy trap because of the total lack of melody & major chords. Lodent must’ve heard me complaining and proves you can make trap that’s both heavy on chords and doesn’t skimp on the bass. It’s a small gift, especially with the festival season coming, so I hope it works its way into a set or two I hear by the time the summer is out. 

Midnight Music: Etherwood – Souvenirs (ft. Zara Kershaw) [Liquid Drum & Bass]

 Etherwood getting Annie Mac Exclusive shows you how far he’s come. Not only is he one of the best in the world in liquid, but his composition & piano work continues to soar as he takes Europe by storm. This track has a little bit of a Rudimental vibe to it, but considering how much I love the two of them, I certainly ain’t complaining. This is definitely the bread & butter of the liquid drum & bass world. Fast but soft, potent, yet, seemingly light, Etherwood executes perfectly as always Zara Kershaw comes in to add soul to the mix to great effect. It’s definitely a must listen while you’re at the gym, grinding through work, driving, or even just jamming out in your underwear. Med School & Etherwood deliver as always.

Midnight Music: Cartoon – Made Me Feel (ft. Kristel Aaslaid) [Liquid Drum & Bass]

To celebrate getting through Monday, here’s some of that boom bap tish that will put a smile on your face. Kristel Aaslaid lays down some sultry and funky vocals over some uptempo liquid which does work. The music video for this is my favorite genre of YouTube video” Humans being Awesome on planet Earth.” The stunt videos, juxtaposed with crazy good HD drone footage from around the world makes for a thrill ride that’s almost softened by the music. The footage, done by Team Blacksheep, deserves as much kudos as the track. The artist hails from Tallinn, so remind me to get out to some parties in Eastern Europe. The tune is out May 18th, but you can listen to the whole track here. I am probably just going to keep posting the hotness Liquicity drops, because it’s all stupendous. Just FYI. Put this track on as you’re powering down tonight. Monday is over, the hard part has passed.
