Nu:Tone is the most underrated Hospital Records selectro. This producer has created great tunes and he’s got a new album coming out, so he’s started to make the rounds getting word out. Thankfully Fabric picked him up for this, and we’ve got a wonderful half hour of funky d&b from him. The mix is quality start to finish, with some particularly delightful bits between the 12 & 20 minute marks. Great thing to put on while driving, pregaming or just jamming out cleaning the house. The Billon – Special remix he ends the mix out with, is not only one of his own originals, it freaking rocks. Check out the tunes and get ready for the album, Future History. I’m going to try and get my hands on it ASAP to figure out which tracks are going to get added to my daily listening Hospital playlist. I know Metaphor 6000 is already on it. If you don’t believe me, check out a preview of it below. It’s a taut, punchy d&b track that deserves your attention, and if this is the tip of the spear on the album? I’m in for a good time.

Match McKenzie Earns 122 Seconds Of Your Time.
A newly minted Gotham lawyer tipped me off to this kid. This is one of those “less than 100 likes” new to the game situations. The production choices are memorable, vintage & well selected, with the rhyming that smacks of competence. This is someone who has done his homework and knows the mark they’re trying to hit. The new wave led by Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino & dope lyricists that aren’t beholden to the world of glam or gangsta is giving us some great new sounds. This is one of them. Check their new tune (72hrs old, apologies) below.
Mix Of The Week: Shifty Rhythms’ GRIMECRAFT Guest Mix [Chip Trap & 16-bit UK Bass]
Got a message about this from a dope DJ friend in Philly and I can’t deal with how good this mix is. This swagger-filled fusion of vgm, chiptunes, trap, hip hop, UK bass & whatever he decides to throw in needs to be heard by as many of my Nintendo generation as possible. This 37min mix has tunes from Ryan Hemsworth, AOBeats, ABSRDST, a sweet bunch of mashups and so many VG samples you’d think you were playing Smash Brothers at a Mad Decent party. Which, totally needs to happen now. Because I would DEFINITELY PAY CASH MONEY to play Smash Brothers on 3DS’s with heads that are kicking back and taking in a Mad Decent show. Check out more of GRIMECRAFT’s stuff here, and kudos for DJ Cutman for bringing this dude to a party in Illadelphia recently. Wouldn’t have heard of him otherwise, so respect.
Earworm Of The Month: Metrik – Make The Floor Burn [Lethally Good D&B]
I do my best never to miss the Hospital podcast by London Elektricity, as he shows off the best tracks & artists coming from Hospital & Med School Records each time. He also takes the time to connect with people on Twitter and other social media sites. His podcast #240 exploded out of the gate, with the new album by Metrik getting a lot of love. One of the tracks on the album, “Make The Floor Burn” has been on repeat since the podcast came out. Not going to lie, this is going to be rocked out to on the daily for weeks, or at least, until the album comes in the mail and I can jam out to the rest of Metrik’s new tracks.
How good is the track? To quote Tony Coleman, London Elektricity himself:
It’s like Underground Resistance vs. The Prodigy. I don’t often say this about a track, but sometimes I hear a piece of music that is so good, I would take a bullet for it.
What else do you need to hear? Frankly, after hearing the tune, I agree with him. What do you think? Would you go Secret Service for this tune? Also get the new Metrik album, cause I certainly fucking did. (Thanks for the Shout Out 55min in Tony! So much respect!)
Mix Of The Week: InDeep 2 – My Digital Enemy [Deep House Deliciousness]
Thanks to my people over at EDMTunes for the tip on this one. InDeep is fast becoming a must follow presence online. Their Deep House vibes are quite potent and I’m not sure when they’re hitting NYC, but it can’t be soon enough. My Digital Enemy pushes out a solid hour of deep grooves. The mix stays consistent, and it’s a great little thing to throw on while enjoying one of the last nice weekends of the year (for the Northern Hemisphere anyway). Get at it and show some love to My Digital Enemy for the great work they put in.
Mix Of The Weekend: UKF Bass Culture 3!
This 13min teaser mix showed up on the UKF YouTube channel today. The quick, neat delightful compilation pulls tracks from Kove, Nero, Feed Me, Buku & a ton more. The mixing is top notch, with the tunes fired out as fast as you’d expect from UKF DJs. This reminder of the vast quality that the label puts out on a regular basis is nice, to the point and available everywhere. The 2 discs have insane amounts of quality, with tracks from Galantis, Pegboard Nerds, Fred V & Graffix, Netsky, Dimension, Noisia & that sweet London Grammar remix by ANDY C. Pick it up on iTunes, and hit up the full playlist on Spotify below!
Scott Bond’s REBOOTED Label Needs Your Attention. Classic Trance Perfection!
This is the type of sound I’ve been waiting for. This new REBOOTED record label is kind of everything I want in a trance label. Scott Bond has collected some great talent for this & the remixes on this release are exquisite. I hope you listen to each one.
The original mix hits all of the right classic UK trance sounds in under a minute. It reminds that there’s a place for this type of synth-led chord line that I’ve been listening to since I was in high school. This combined with Jan Johnston’s perfect vocal work results in one of these old school tunes that I would flip my shit if I heard played out live. The track is long, the builds are exactly what they need to be and there isn’t a stupid EDM “drop” for miles. Obsidian Radio is a name to watch out for, I know that much for sure.
The Allen & Envy remix is a pulsing, potent force that shimmers as it drives along. This is the harder end of trance, this 138bpm remix does the original justice while pushing the energy even higher. The vocal pull down is exactly what dancers need about three minutes in, giving a respite while glimmering in its build-up. This is one of the sounds that I think needs to be heard from coast-to-coast here in the USA, and with tracks like this, I know it’s going to happen.
Playlists Of The Weekend: EDMTunes/Spinnin’ Records & InDeep 30!
Super glad that I can bring this out to share for y’all. A bunch of my peeps at EDMTunes put together this fantastic 90min of dance music for you. New illness from The Chainsmokers, deep gorgeousness from Matt Lange off Anjunabeats, Bassnectar’s summer jam & 17 more tunes. From trap bangers to progressive anthems, if you want to know what Electric Zoo sounds like right now, you’d be hard pressed to find a better sampling of tunes that are big right now. Strong by Arno Cost & Shadow of the Sun’s Mako remix are highlights as well. Hit up EDMTunes and thank them for making this happen with Spinnin’ Records. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you know when the next one comes out as well.
Over on Soundcloud, there’s the next session of InDeep. These cats are quickly becoming my go to source for deep, future, tech & “insert sub-genre of house here” house. The list comes in at a manageable 72min and with new Hot Since 82, Amtrac, a fun little snippet from Marcapasos, a FANTASTIC deep house remix of Bittersweet Symphony (must listen), a joint from Mixmag featuring Jody Wisternoff & a whole lot more. If the EDMTunes playlist is your Turn Down For What list, this is your grooving, deep dark set that happens later in the night. Or now while you’re walking around cleaning the house on the long weekend before shenanigans later. Or yachting, elephant polo’ing or jousting, whatever you’re into. The tunes are quality so enjoy the almost 3 hours of music between these two playlists and rock out your weekend!
Just Dan Pushes Some Mixed Greens Onto Your Plate!
My boy Just Dan out of Illadelphia has put out a fun little mix for the summer sunset that you’re going to love. There’s a slow build from 110bpm to ~180, pulsing through genres and mixing effortlessly. There are a couple of transitions that are just stunningly good, exactly the technical skill I’ve grown to expect from Just Dan. The Prodigy, the bass, fidget and a bunch of breaky ridiculousness make for a wild ride that you will love. Great weekend jam, or perfect to pre-game your Saturday night shenanigans if you’ve not left for Burning Man.
Mix Of The Weekend: Sundale Sessions Summer 2014 – Jorn Van Deynhoven [Summer Trance]
I’ve got a real treat for y’all this weekend. Jorn van Deynhoven is back with a gorgeous summer mix of trance & progressive. It’s a potent shift from some of the more classic & hard trance sounds I’ve grown accustomed to hearing from his sets, but totally welcome. The hour is filled with lush, driving beats, mixed seamlessly. This has all the hallmarks of a top tier set, anywhere from Ibiza to Miami to LA to Amsterdam. The mix even seems to dip into deep house at times, but it pushes back into progressive & gorgeous trance, especially in the second half of the mix. Take a listen while you wind down the rest of your weekend.
